Are these still available? Flying MEL-SYD return this weekend and could use both. Would be more than happy with just one though.

    2026 travel plans

Yes I read that TR and it was indeed excellent and I am sure I will find it useful. ShelleyB-mum is a little younger than @Human mum is but I think will enjoy similar things.

    2026 travel plans

Late to this party I know but have two trips planned and booked for 2026. 1. Jan 2026 (actually commencing NYE 2025, so I suppose technically doesn't belong here). QF points on JAL in PE to Japan for ShelleyB-son and I (PE both ways in/out of Tokyo). ShelleyB-son and I will be there for 24...

A British vacation (but I'm also going to Japan)

Yes, it is probably 80% non-domestic tourists at Borderless and Planets, but that may be partly the number of years it has been open (particularly Borderless) and that Tokyoites don't generally have time off during the week. But Japan has been a world leader in digital art and TeamLabs a leader...

A British vacation (but I'm also going to Japan)

Would your mum be interested in the Team Labs art galleries? Or have you both already done them? We did Planets in 2023 and Borderless just a few days ago. I know I am probably telling you things you already know, but Borderless is very accessible and the tea room was amazing as well.

    A pre-wedding Honeymoon? (21 days around Asia)

As a long-suffering Wests Tigers fan here (from the Wests Magpies side of the family) you should be grateful you don't care. Enjoying the trip report!

    reward flights to Japan sep2026

Note that in addition to the airlines mentioned above, China Airlines (via Taipei) using Qantas Point is also a possbility. These seats also open up a little under 12 months in advance and if you book when they open, there are often at least 2 J seats available. Previously 3 or 4 seats in J were...

    Flights to Kilimanjaro Airport

Very few major international airlines fly to Kilimanjaro, and when they do, it's usually much much more expensive than flying to a local major airport and then taking an internal flight. Qatar and Turkish fly to Kilimanjaro, but as mentioned are not Star Alliance. Your best bets are either via...

An unanticipated but exciting opportunity to tour southern Africa in April 2026 - advice and input requested

Our experience in Tanzania and Zanzibar was the same. All the drivers we used (some recommended, some we just chose) were reliable and safe. We also kept cards and used same drivers where possible. On long journeys we also found them excellent to chat to and get insight into local life.

An unanticipated but exciting opportunity to tour southern Africa in April 2026 - advice and input requested

Sorry to jump in ahead of @BriarFlyer, but for us finding private drivers was as simple as contacting the lodge for recommendations. And WhatsApp is widely used for communication. For shorter journeys, the usual RideShare apps (Uber, Bolt etc.) are available and you can check ratings. Suspect...

An unanticipated but exciting opportunity to tour southern Africa in April 2026 - advice and input requested

Hi again - forgot to add I think the main starting point is to consider what you would most hope to get out of a trip. Cultural interaction, animals (notwithstanding that specific sightings of large predators are never guaranteed), just chilling etc. That will probably be your best guide to the...

An unanticipated but exciting opportunity to tour southern Africa in April 2026 - advice and input requested

How exciting! I am not sure I am any sort of expert and have only two sets of experiences to call upon: 27 years ago as a backpacker in Southern/East Africa (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya), and just over a year ago Tanzania and Zanzibar with a substantially increased budget and level of...

    Snow, Onsen and Crab!

Since being in photos is not my thing (only taking them) the photogenic level of the shoes is not so important to me. The fact that I would probably trip and break my ankle in those ranks a little higher on my list of things to consider.

    Snow, Onsen and Crab!

Amazingly in some of the videos people looked to be wearing rather everyday shoes but I think I would just end up on my backside. I also plan to take my hiking poles to assist in my efforts to stay upright.

    Snow, Onsen and Crab!

Your Salomons look nice. Our hiking boots are also Gore-tex and what I figured would do in the main. We are not planning super-rural. Would definitely like to do a few walks where I think cleats, as you suggest, would be useful. Walking up to Yamadera for instance. I have viewed videos of people...

    Snow, Onsen and Crab!

Great photos of all the snow. Looks amazing. Which brings me to asking a rather mundane question. Our next trip to Japan will be January and although the exact itinerary awaits finalisation, snowy regions will definitely be involved, such as around Sendai perhaps further north. We are none of...

    Snow, Onsen and Crab!

I particularly like the inside back pocket you added. Sadly don’t envisage being close by in the next few trips. But should be a possibility in trip envisaged in Jan 2028. Yes I am the sort of person who plans trips years in advance. This is why I need notebooks!

    Snow, Onsen and Crab!

That is so cool. And 19k well spent in my opinion. I shall definitely have to get there one day.
