Young flyer with various questions (Melbourne - Honolulu Promotion)

Just a couple of things I flew HNL-SYD last year in JQ business and had an excellent trip. The flight was 10 hours but all daylight, it was full service and the seats had good pitch and comfort. Highly recommend. Re Qantas upgrades As I remember JQ policy a year or two ago, you could...

    The Planespotting/General AV Geek Thread

Lots of apologies for my slip up in suggesting the Aeroflot plane was an A300. Of course I meant A330 and Aeroflot has many of these, however I agree it looks like a triple 7. Here is a list of aircraft operated by Aeroflot, as you can see there are no IIyushin II-96 aircraft in the list and...

My guess is that it is an A300, Aeroflot have quite a few of them as there is too much passenger resistance to flying in a Russian plane.

Is this for real or is it another photo shop job? I cant believe that LAX traffic control would let this happen. A great shot even it is a paste up!

I get the picture and also the significance of the video link posted by PaulST. The pilots in those days could actually fly an aeroplane.

Sorry Leadman I cant see the safety angle in this photo. The aircraft model seems to be the type of thing in many airports, just a four engine airliner maybe an A340. What is the black box underneath?

This a great shot PaulST it really puts the difference in size of these two aircraft into perspective. It never ceases to amaze me that a 777 can do what it does with just two engines. It is a big bird alright, it takes me 5 minutes to walk from the boarding door back to where I usually sit.

Great shots especially the B767 at HNL, not much of Diamond Head showing which is a pity as this is one of the world's great icons. This must be one of the last 767s in service how many are left in QF fleet?

From pictures I saw the pax were seated along the sides of the fuselage sitting in sort of hammock seats right under the parachutes. Everyone was issued with industrial grade ear plugs

The joy of alcohol on planes

If my memory is correct a former Prime Minister once held the record for the greatest number of beers consumed between Sydney and London. Not sure of the statistics.

You are absolutely right. The twin turbo props used to make one hell of a din, a high pitched scream especially when they moved off from their parked position. The noise was not muffled much inside either. I think it was a characteristic of the Rolls Royce Dart turboprops used in F28's and...

An old Fokker F27, one of the worlds most popular regional airplanes a few decades ago although there are still plenty flying in shall we say less developed countries. They were noisy, bumpy and cramped airplanes in a 2+2 configuration. I used to enjoy watching the landing wheels retract...

Another pet hate of mine is the handle design on many cases. The handle is simply a strap which lies flat against the case. Try picking this up as the carrousel goes speeding by.

Did Laker ever have F28's ? I think he was one of the first users of the A300 which he flew long haul. The aircraft in the near foreground I think is a DC10 but what airline?

    Upright vs Spinner luggage

I have been considering purchasing a new 4 wheel spinner case however my worry would be how it stays put on slightly sloping ground, especially in many car parks where the pavement is slightly sloped to assist water run off. I am reminded of a shopping trolley in our local supermarket.
