    Missing Velocity Points?

Velocity points do not partially expire....either they ALL expire, or none expire. So there's no scenario related to expiry that would leave you missing some points...unless when you say you were "short" you mean your balance was zero.

    Velocity alert tools

The only VA partner where I think last minute business class availability seems to be "a thing" is I think, United...although with Etihad now limiting partners to booking business class 30 days out...perhaps this a new opportunity...haven't really checked. For QR and SQ...you will probably be...

Booking SQ flights via VA Problem

It's not uncommon that the availability of VA codeshare flights can be very limited...although it does seem exceptionally so this far out.

Singapore Redemption Flight - Lounge Access?

Yes they do...Star Alliance rules. If you wish you could go to the Air NZ lounge at SYD. There are no other Star Alliance lounges at SIN though.

Singapore Redemption Flight - Lounge Access?

You're searching for something you won't find. All business class passengers will get entry to the Silverkris lounge...regardless of how they booked / FF status.

Virgin Australia and Air NZ form new partnership

You are proposing to have 1 VA ticket and 1 NZ ticket...so that will never happen. Neither ticketing carrier will touch the other's ticket...assuming that they even have access to be able to manage it.

Virgin Australia and Air NZ form new partnership

They're not going to protect you from delays and misconnects on separate tickets. The best you can hope for is bags being checked through, which as mentioned is also doubtful.

Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

There MAY (unlikely if your itinerary doesn't touch The Americas) be free cancellation within 24 hours...but that is likely to be your only 'less expense' option...with all the inherent risks.

Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

Everyone knows that except the person updating the lounge access info on the Velocity website. Actually...it looks like they've updated it! And they nearly managed to do it correctly!

Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

...and...apparently Velocity Gold and Plat only get lounge access at Singapore...not other SQ operated lounges (not true...but that's what they've written).

    Which velocity card to get

I would also look out for the Amex Velocity Plat...preferably with about 100k sign up points. Not only would that offset the annual fee but the card also includes an annual complimentary return domestic flight. It's a pity that Coles Mastercard is about to start charging international...
