Single use passes require you to be on a QF or JQ number (and to link the pass). If flying J without status, I don't think you're entitled to a +1 (that requires at least sapphire).

Welcome to AFF! Is your primary aim to fly EK F, or to avoid EK's coughpy business seat on unrefurbished 77Ws? If the latter, you may want to think about flying other airlines like MH (who resume BNE from 29/11) who have better J seats.

Seat selection depends on getting the PNR (which will be different for AS and AA from the QF one) and whether the seat selection is chargeable (this depends on the policy of the airline concerned so check their sites, and whether you have status).
