    Bucket list Restaurants worldwide

One I have visited 25 years ago, and would like to go again, is the Jules Verne Restaurant. It is halfway up the Eiffel Tower. My memory was spectacular food, spectacular view.

Laundry services and experiences while travelling

A multifit sink plug lives in my toilet bag. Only $3.50 (from Bunnings) and paid me back many times over.

    No round the world fares?

I've previously used Roundabout Travel (Australia's Round The World Airfare Specialist) with good success. Round the world has cost around $7,000 business class. Another option I have used is Finnair. You have to fly via Helsinki which does have good links to lots of cities in Europe.

ING Bank Dropping 5 ATM Operator Fee Rebate Benefit from 1/8/23

No worries for us. Since COVID we have found locally, or overseas, between us we don’t need to get Cash more than 3 times a month. Even the Big Issue sellers accept card payments, although some buskers probably miss out!

The care package you get from Qantas when your luggage is delayed overnight

I'm always at risk of cutting myself on the coughpy two blade razors they give you in the shower packs and it looks like the razor in this pack is similar. The Norman Gunston look isn't the best when you are boarding your next flight! For less than $1 they could upgrade to a better disposable...

Article: A Brief History of Qantas Frequent Flyer

When you can get them. The only classic awards I could find booking 11 months in advance (With Gold Status) were through Tokyo taking 30 Hours. Everything else was well over 1,000,000 points.

Article: A Brief History of Qantas Frequent Flyer

I've been a member for 25 years and though it is easier to collect points, through partners, its certainly harder to redeem them and the value has gone massively. Back in 1998 my wife and I did take advantage of 2 tickets Melbourne-Alice Springs-Perth-Melbourne on the proceeds of one business...

Laundry services and experiences while travelling

Generally only travel with easy to wash clothes (never things like denim jeans). I take 3 plastic clothes hangers to dry shirts and a multi size rubber plug. My wife takes detergent sheets, whereas I usually use the room shampoo as a detergent. Western Countries I usually find a laundrette...

Just when you thought you had seen it all in the Qantas lounge...

Just seen in the Melbourne Q domestic lounge. . . A lady stocking up with a handfull of those little jars of jam, into the handbag. Why bother . . . there must be the equivalent of about $0.20 of jam per jar

Would you still fly Qantas if it had no frequent flyer program?

Although I have been a Qantas member for 25 years (currently Gold) I always look at the entire package. For example the last time I bought a business RTW it was with Lufthansa. When doing my assessment of the package in the past I tended to value each Q point at 2-3 cents. Since COVID, and much...

What's the value in car rental elite status?

I haven’t got any status and normally book through Zoom Zoom or similar looking at a small car and nearly always get an upgrade usually a Camry Hybrid. On one occasion a few years ago we booked a Hyundai Getz and finished up with a Comodore SS! Probably 20 years ago I had a Hertz Gold card...

Personal greetings from the cabin manager - what can you (realistically) ask for?

Didn't ask. . . . but about 10 years ago travelling economy on Cathay Pacific as a Qantas Gold member . . . the Flight Attendant asked me for my meal choice and delivered it to me when the trolley had just started at the other end of the cabin. Everyone else in my row looked envious!

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

A few years back a woman in Qatar Business Class was convinced she was talking to the guy on the left. That's Philip Seymour Hoffman (He had recently been in 'The Hunger Games') Problem was he had died 6 months earlier!

2022 - The year in review

Europe with Finnair in their new business class. . . not as plush as some but very happy as it was around $2,000 cheaper! While in Europe took first Ryanair flight, Prague to Edinburgh. . . I can see why they got their bad reputation. Philipines travelling for the charity I volunteer for. I...

    Cathay Manila Lounge

I got in the PAGSS Lounge with my Gold membership back in August. It felt nicer than my memories of the Qantas lounge from my last trip through Manila in 2018.
