Article: Reward Seat Release Patterns Have Changed Fundamentally

My solution is to 'burn' points on my wifes travel and pay for my tickets so I keep gold status. In our case it works quite well as I travel more than my wife.

Seemingly trivial reasons why you choose one hotel/airline/shop over another

For me its towels. There is one hotel, in Interlaken, that sticks in my mind for having the worst towels even though everything else was OK.

    Qantas Customer Remediation Program

Our original flight was Monday morning direct. . . the alternative flight was Tuesday evening via Adelaide arriving Wednesday. In my opinion not a realistic alternative

    Qantas Customer Remediation Program

But what about those who booked on Points? I had a 9.00am Jetstar flight booked on points from Perth to Melbourne cancelled at 2.00am (which I obviously didn't find about until we woke up. Got the points back but it cost us $1,000 each to get home (Both in Middle Seats)

    eSims, what is your experience.

Most recent example was Bhutan: Au$15 for 7days with Airlo. US6 for 14 days with a local sim from Paro Airport.

    eSims, what is your experience.

For the past year I have been using an Airlo E Sim overseas but not impressed with the cost compared with local sims. I have now gone with a Boost E Sim package for Australia and will try both international roaming (around $3-$4/day depending on length of roaming purchased ) and local sims for...

Buying an iPhone at Sydney airport Duty Free

Personally I aim to buy in Australia shortly before I travel and claim GST back because: Cheaper than buying at Airport. Easier to take back to the shop if I have a problem. Mrs Bashworth bought an Iphone overseas and it was a lower spec than the Australian version. (She can't have an Esim even...

Why are so many planes registered in Ireland?

Approximately 50% of the world’s leased aircraft are managed or leased through Ireland. A favourable corporate tax regime, double tax treaties, first-rate infrastructure, skilled talent pool and rich aviation heritage, are the main reasons. (summary of a Deloitte Page)

    You haven’t lived until…

Hasn't happened too often. . . . . but once in Singapore (when I still checked bags in) it came out first as I reached the carousel and I hardly broke stride.😁 I have had the opposite of no bags 3 times, once in New York for a very cold weekend and my coat was in the bag.

    PJs before or after meal?

Mrs Bashworth won't wear the PJs after seeing Wil Anderson riffing about them back in 2017. She has also banned me from wearing more than the top when I travel with her! On a different tack I once saw a lady wearing the PJ top walking around the Salamanca Market one Sunday?!?

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

Yes our problem is we have been using Aldi for years and they don't do E-Sims . . . if the bank could send confirmation by email it would be fine (after all they have been told that we are overseas!)

Cash or Card? Countries where you still need cash.

Just got back from Bhutan again. We used the Bank of Bhutan App (GOBOB) successfully around the country but some issues. You need a Bhutan phone number for the app to work so you need a local sim rather than roaming or an Esim. Because we had a local sim we couldn't get the confirming code...

    QANTAS talking to the disaffected!

Somethings seems to be happening to try and keep frequent flyers more 'on side'. Last night I was flying economy back to Melbourne from Delhi with my wife (Both Gold) and for the first time ever the Cabin Supervisor came over after the first meal service and said " Welcome back, is there...

Short turnarounds: Have you flown back from your destination with the same crew?

The only time I did this was about 15 years ago flew up to Rockhampton one night for a job interview the next morning. Immediately after the interview I caught a plane back and one of the flight attendents recognised me.

Heavy duty padlocks in cabin baggage

We are currently on a a 2 month long railway holiday in Europe and wanted to make sure our lugggage was safe when it was on a train luggage area remote from our seat. To achieve this I carried a heavy duty bike lock in my carry on luggage (I don't check in luggage) without any security problems...
