    Bangkok airport scam

Hmmm. I watching this thread with interest as I'm connecting through BKK on my return from PVG in 2 weeks time. And as the duty free shopping at PVG is a little "thin", I was expecting to buy duty free and gifts at BKK. Sounds like the moral of the story is to be extra careful....

Should we ban reference to No News articles because - hey it just gets me down man...

Re: Should we ban reference to No News articles because - hey it just gets me down ma Definitely not. I've come to think of NoNews as comic book journalism. It brightens my day to see badly spelt, poorly worded articles, with inaccurate pictures. I think it will eventually be revealed that...

'Please pack less' say baggage handlers

People probably do not want to spend a huge amount of money on luggage, (and instead use the "threadbare, worn out, cheaply manufactured rubbish") because they see how badly the luggage is treated. No point in spending $2000 on Louis Vuitton luggage, because after 2 trips it looks like the...

    China visa - price hike!

I hope that the Brisbane consulate doesn't go down the same road. Sending off a passport for an inderminate amount of time is not always convenient, or possible.

    China visa - price hike!

No. If you apply at the Brisbane consulate it's $80. No service fee. Visa

    China visa - price hike!

China is much easier this year to get a visa than it was last year. When the olympics were on it was a right royal PITA to get a visa. The price has gone up, but it is still cheaper than other close countries - for a 6 month multi entry it's $80, for Vietnam I paid nearer $200

Mr & Mrs! China adventure - Trip report

I have taken that train, with first class sleeper service Shanghai to Beijing. And the horror stories about the bathrooms are true - it's kind of like all the fans at a Melbourne v Brisbane Lions match at the MCG have all got drunk as skunks and then all had to use one toilet cubicle. Let's just...

Mr & Mrs! China adventure - Trip report

Typical! I'm going back home on 18th Dec and don't come back to Shanghai/Suzhou until March.

    amenity packs

Air China J pack - like a game of two halves. Outside the pack looks like a stylish Givenchy purse, inside it's full of cheap plastic tat that would cost 30c to put together.

    The totally off-topic thread

Ah, gourmet dining at it's best! Saying that, right now I could kill for a bacon and egg mc-cough-muffin.

    Fooling the adverts

It's my eighth trip to China in the last couple of years, hence the complete lack of excitement, and it was only on my first trip that I noticed any blocked sites. The BBC news website was most notable of those unable to be viewed. And it has all been Western brand hotels - Accor, *Wood and...

    Fooling the adverts

Ok, so you can tell I'm bored....Sitting here in a hotel room in Suzhou, China browsing the site - as you do - and noticing that the "Google Ads" are all in chinese (I presume that the ad server uses some type of IP location based system), which is not that useful to me as I can only say that my...

How much better is Qantas Platinum than Gold?

I've been reading this thread for a while, and decided I would finally wade in with my (probably insignificant) opinion just as it is dying down a little. ;) I agree with all the tangible benefits: FLounge access Anytime QP/Int J Lounge access (and that is worth a fair chunk when talking about...

KA HKG Connection - Do I have enough time?

A one hour connection is very easy at HKG. I've done a connection from KA to VS (ie a non-alliance connection) including collecting a boarding pass in 20 mins. An excellent airport to connect through - especially as they have some damned fine lounges!

    Christchurch international?

Mal, I'm not so sure. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I was waved through by the lounge dragon after showing my WP card before she'd even seen the Deathstar boarding passes.

I would imagine they would mind the staring less than they would mind the stream of dribble down your shirt

    Emergency Qantas landing?

It's the same in VS Upper Class on the A340, but in a herringbone formation. It looked like it was to protect the passenger in the event of a heavy deceleration for those who aren't facing the direction of travel (and deceleration). Wouldn't really want to trust my life to it after it had had...

    Accor A|Club - any joy?

I did a review of one of the Australian Accors I stay in on Tripadvisor, including my criticism of the a|club scheme. There was a management response to my review, which said that they had taken my point on board. And lo and behold - the next stay there (about 2 weeks ago) posted with no issue...

    Plasma,LCD or what.

I'll echo the "Plasma as an aging technology" point. I had LCD TVs of various sizes up until the removers dropped our last one - a Philips 42". The insurance coughed up and I bought a Samsung 50" plasma to replace it, and as soon as it dies (or I can finally convince SWMBO that a 50" TV is...

Vietnam Visa on Arrival and Jetstar

The only point I would make scmk, is that the 5 or so times that I travelled into SGN (with a prearranged business visa, I would hasten to add) there was a pretty big queue for the "visa on arrival" desk. Some of the bods in the queue looked like they were in for the long haul too. If there...
