Best Credit Cards for Overseas Travel & Online Shopping

Back when it had that flight the card was fantastic value, especially if you used it for something like SYD-PER. Once the free flight went though I got rid of it and switched to the Coles Rewards Mastercard. Gotten a few good years out of that one, but now it's getting devalued as well.

    New Amex statement credits

Lots of different airline offers lately. Definitely a positive, even if I won't use all of them.

    QF 11 delayed again

That flight is notorious for poor on time performance. https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-ontime-performance-rating/QF/11/SYD Dunno if there's some sort of scheduling issue or something that's causing it.

Long pants/lower leg coverings on flights?

I always wear jeans, but that's just because I find I get cold on the plane, especially if it's a long haul flight or I'm seated in an exit row.

Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

As previously outlined from the draft determination: The Department then responded two months later: Had it been "crystal clear" then IASC would not have had a reason to ask the Department for further advice. They clearly had a reason to request further advice and the Department needed two...

Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

And there must have been some question mark around if this was possible or it wouldn't have taken the Department two months to get back to IASC when the question was asked.

Virgin Australia applied for ADL/OOL-PER-DPS. Failed due International Terminal Requirement

Looking through the draft determination it seems like there was considerable discussion (and confusion?) between IASC, the Department and Virgin Australia about what was or wasn't allowed. In particular, 4.4 and 4.5 indicate the Department confirming that the sequencing was permissible...

    QANTAS talking to the disaffected!

The audience they really should be interviewing is people who used to fly Qantas regularly or semi-regularly and have now stopped and taken their business elsewhere.

    Bonza Airline Discussion

I think the staff are now eligible for the Fair Entitlements Guarantee payment. The business doesn't have to have gone into liquidation, just insolvency, and then once the staff have lost their jobs, they're probably eligible. https://www.dewr.gov.au/fair-entitlements-guarantee

    QANTAS talking to the disaffected!

It's a good sign, but until it results in actual improvements I'm sceptical. There's been a lot of promises of listening closely to customer feedback in the past that haven't resulted in noticeable improvements. In regard to things like metal cutlery, more WiFi or a new website font, I don't...

Virgin Australia and Air NZ form new partnership

Or at least not bothered. It's telling that Qantas did not make any submissions at all in response to this, so I'm guessing they probably just don't care.

    Accor Plus Membership Discussion

I've just had a (rare) success with the Best Price Guarantee. I'd had a look on Google Hotels and found a cheaper rate at the Sofitel Beverly Hills. The rates were flexible, so I went ahead and booked it with Accor and then fill out the Best Price form and submitted it, thinking there'd be some...

    Taxis At Denpasar Airport Bali.

I haven't used it myself, but it is possible to use Grab from Denpasar airport now. https://www.grab.com/global/airport-rides/i-gusti-ngurah-rai-international-airport/ They even have a lounge you can wait in to get collected from.

    New Amex statement credits

Got an interesting one this morning on my Platinum Charge Card: 1 Bonus Point per foreign currency spend equivalent to AU$1, up to 20,000 Points I've added it, but a single bonus point is not nearly enough to make up for the 3% foreign currency fee, so I don't think I'll be taking advantage of it.

Perth Airport fuel issues, many flights cancelled/diverted

ABC is reporting that they've managed to fix whatever the problem was and get the fuel flowing again. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-01/perth-airport-flights-resume-after-refuelling-problem/103922850

Perth Airport fuel issues, many flights cancelled/diverted

Double ouch, there's no international processing at Karratha so I've no idea what they'll do with the passengers. Top up the tanks and fly onwards to Darwin maybe?

Is Citi Plus still the best option for overseas cash?

I believe in Spain the banks even charge their own customers for ATM withdrawals done at the bank's own ATMs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATM_usage_fees#Spain Give Unicaja Banco a try (I've heard they're free) and Abanca is supposedly much cheaper as well.

Qantas to move to new Perth Airport terminal, expand Perth hub

The "artists impressions" are certainly very impressive and it's great that there's now (finally) agreement on a path forward to put the terminals together. However, I'll believe it when they break ground. Growing up in WA in the 90s this was getting talked about back then and there's been...

    Virgin involuntary downgrade scam

I reckon that's definitely the case. I can understand not refunding until the flight is taken as things like an equipment change might get reversed or the customer might move to another flight. Taking 21 days afterwards to process the refund does sound like a long time, though I suspect that...
