Qantas International Catering Singapore To Brisbane

I always assume that the meals in J on Qantas Intl will be fairly rubbish, so I try and eat in the lounge beforehand and don't bother much with what's being offered on board (alcohol excepted). As for Y on Qantas Intl, I try very hard to avoid it. Qantas compares very poorly with CX, my...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Yes indeed, I think VA is being quite mean about this, and in the end it quite possibly could hurt VA as well as the Velocity members who miss out. As for UA, they certainly did the right thing, and helped me to amass 2.5M miles with Mileage Plus, thereby giving me (and my wife) lifetime...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Thanks, but I was under the impression that the shuttle bus was no more. Otherwise it's the obvious choice. In any case, I quite like to walk from airports to my off-airport accommodation (or bus stop) when it's reasonably doable, eg SYD, OOL, DRW, PSA, DMK, CNX, MNL, TRG, BLK (sadly...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Yes, in a similar vein, one sunny afternoon I set out to walk from CNS to the highway to catch a bus, and it was quite a hot day. No major dramas, but it would have been nice if it was a bit cooler. Anyway, halfway into my odyssey, a kind passing motorist perhaps felt that I might have been...

Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

It has to be an improvement over that foul tasting white Lallier. I even prefer the Aussie sparkling in the J lounge. Very poor when compared to other airlines' FC lounges around the world that I have visited, eg CX, EY and BA.

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Yes that's fine if you're staying for a few days, but for an overnighter it becomes less obvious. I'll have plenty of time to get to the city (flight arrives 10:50 am), so the bus option may well work well for me (and the exercise won't go amiss either).

Best options for making cheap calls/text when overseas?

That may be so, but the app offered it to me. Just didn't allow me to switch it on from overseas. I'm not making it up. However, that is now all in the past, as I currently use Amaysim which is fine (pity about not allowing 5G). And as a backup, I also have a Three UK sim which I use (in...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

I'm having an overnight in Launceston later this year and have been looking into this very issue of getting to Lauceston city from LST. From experience at LST. Uber can be expensive, due to the tricks they play with surge pricing, etc. Cabs are not far behind either. So I have come to the...

Best options for making cheap calls/text when overseas?

Eggs duly sucked. I couldn't get the app to work as it didn't like being overseas. I was quite happy to pay Vodafone $5 a day for the privilege, but it flatly didn't want to take my money if I wasn't in Oz. Catch 22 really. In my opinion, Vodafone is a heap of carp and I've now changed it to...

Feedback on the AFF website & brand refresh

Well, we all have feet that we can vote with, if so inclined. Personally, I think the changes to the website are change for the sake of change. More negative for me than positive. A bit like what's happened to Expert Flyer...

ExpertFlyer beta program - April 2025

Change for the sake of change. Absolute garbage. Why didn't they just leave it alone and fix any bugs? Oh, and I've been a programmer since 1968 (Emidec 2400).

Qatar Check in at Singapore Changi

Let me correct that. How do you define "pretty coughty"? Happy to reply to your (forthcoming) response... So what better "pay for entry" lounge have you been to at SIN (I think I've been to them all), and SATS Premier Lounge in T1 is not too bad at all, IMO. It's on a par with the SQ *G lounge...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Well, what airline status is worthwhile from a financial perspective? It's basically the comfort and feel good factor. In my case I value OWE, as it gets me into nicer lounges, better seats, etc. Yes, I know, from an accountant's point of view, it would be seen as a waste of money, but I enjoy...

Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

I'm a similar type of flyer, but I don't think we're the kind of people that Qantas is really interested in. However, I did work really hard over quite a few years to achieve 2.5 million paid miles with United, to get lifetime Platinum. Pity I don't make a great deal of use of it nowadays.
