How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

That's generally been my experience with Mecure, though I haven't stayed at any of the ones in London. If your work travel policy allows for it though, you could perhaps look to book a room higher than the base type at one of the Mecure hotels. I've found that can sometimes work quite well...

How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Yes, I stayed one night there last year. I'd been up in Liverpool and was flying out of London the next morning, so I took the train down and stayed the night there. I'd describe it as clean and functional, but a bit dated. The room was adequate, if a bit on the small side. Good breakfast in the...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

My experience with cancellations is that they'll rebook you straight away and include a link in the notification that you can click if you want to see what else is available and select another flight. I always check the link and see what else is there, even if I'm happy with the rebooking.

    VA international for work?

I've found for our corporate provider (CTM) that the hotels are often more expensive than booking directly, but the rates offered are flexible and the direct rates are not. Usually if I compare the flexible rate booked directly it's more expensive than what we're able to get through to corporate...

Indonesia's Bali considering increasing Tourism tax levy to deter 'low-class foreign tourists'

I think it's possible they could do like Bhutan and have a daily tourist fee. I think it's probably a bit economically questionable though. Bali's entire economy is effectively tourism and introducing a steep tourist tax isn't likely create a situation that attracts more high spending tourists...

Changed Rules re Liquids and More for Domestic Flights?

I've noticed that once the new scanners go in at an airport, the rules tend to go a bit all over the place. I don't know if this is just inconsistent training or differences in the make and model of the equipment, but it does make things hard. For example, Melbourne T3/4 and Canberra both have...

VA vs. QF - total package differences?

I think you're always going to have the odd bad experience with customer service, no matter what you do. I do think that overall I have more positive experiences with VA and over the years I've found them to be consistently good, with an occasional bad outlier. I don't fly QF much, but when I...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

This is the Foreign Investment Review Board advice, it's unrelated to the ACCC determination. Those are separate things.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Interview this morning on Insiders with the Treasurer. He said he's received the advice on this matter from the FIRB this weekend and that he expects to make a decision on it this week. https://iview.abc.net.au/show/insiders The episode hasn't appeared on iView yet but it usually does before...

WhatsApp spam from Novotel Melbourne Airport

I too received the annoying WhatsApp spam. I don't mind if they sign me up for emails, those will get sorted by Gmail into the Promotions category and I can view them when I'm ready. But there's something very annoying about WhatsApp/SMS marketing in that it causes a notification and interrupts...

Qantas' Impending Change to Tokyo Flight Schedule

I don't think that rumour is credible, my understanding of the IASC process is that ship has long sailed and there's just no path for Virgin to ask to keep the slot. It's already been handed back and handed to another airline.

Qantas' Impending Change to Tokyo Flight Schedule

Of course not! They're selling a bundle of rights on flights they have no intention of operating.

Cheese and crackers are now dinner? (Rant)

If the VA flight is $5 cheaper you could just drop by Woolworths beforehand and buy yourself a whole box of "Brekkie Slices"!

Qantas Cabin Baggage Survey Results Email

It's why I don't have much sympathy for the airlines having a crack down on carry-on bags. This is a self made mess. If it wasn't for the airlines penny-pinching (both charging for the bags and cutting costs for baggage handling) then they wouldn't have to worry about the cost of delayed flights...

Qantas Cabin Baggage Survey Results Email

I did see Virgin doing some spot checks at SYD last week for the flight I was on, prior to boarding starting. But again, just weighing the bags, not checking the dimensions or even if the passenger has several of them and no scrutiny of the personal item. I reckon for most flights you'd be fine...

$16K Fraud on HSBC credit card

It's quite possible that there's no breach or mistake been made anywhere and that this is the result of a BIN attack. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-14/cybercriminals-stealing-credit-card-number-bin-attack-scam/103223086 Ultimately the retailers, networks and banks could work together to...
