In oneworld ff earnings are based on marketing carrier (flight number) when an eligible operating carrier and an eligible fare class. All oneworld airlines are classed as eligible.

If you try to cancel 1 leg of a return ticket no guarantee you will get a "refund" for what you think is the fare for that leg. May (will) get zero or the airline may actually request more $$ from you to fly the remaining single leg. If it was that simple 100's of people would be doing that.

What is your history/balance with EK and QF freq flyer programs? One trip is not a good basis to select or add to a ffp. Beware of orphan ff miles/points/avios they may expire before get enough to use.

If you had your QF ffn in the reservation , QR (and VA) may reject the claim as "credited to another ffp". Even if the earning was zero. May need to get QF to "uncredit" these fights before another ffp will consider. Will not be easy Usually when looking on line, before the flight, at QF...

I have NZ$17 from cancelled CV19 flight (Mar 2020) and partial use of credit for other Air NZ flights. Would have preferred a full cash refund, but was refused. Have until 31 Dec 2026 to use. Or give away if I can. Expect QF will have a similar wind fall from credits that people forget about...
