    AFF Point Valuations

The irony is that, as airlines have continually devalued their points, brokers are less and less interested in airline miles. The main game in the brokering business today is buying cash tickets with bank (not airline) points, especially Amex (US) and Chase. Consumers are also going in that...

    AFF Point Valuations

This would have taken an enormous amount of work. Well done. It's interesting to compare to equivalent projects in the US: see, eg, Reasonable Redemption Values (RRVs). It's striking that, as you note, this chart doesn't include Qantas' upcoming devaluation, which will drop their value. With...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Not going to happen. The RBA has all but ruled it out on p30 of the paper on the basis that (1) it means smaller merchants subsidise larger merchants because the latter is able to negotiate lower interchange rates than the former and (2) issuer costs are lower than the interchange rates, which...

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

A Global Explorer is a paid fare. If you mean a Oneworld classic flight award, yes you can call Qantas to ask for award seats to be released on a Qantas flight.

Qantas Classic Reward & Upgrade Devaluation on 5 August 2025

I think that's a glitch. Use the multi-city tool and it still shows 8K.

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Actually, I'd say most people in this thread are also supporting the removal of surcharges, which is what prompted my comments earlier in the thread. What it shows is that people really, really, really dislike surcharges — even points collectors will happily trade away points for their removal.

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Generally 50-90% lower than what is offered in Australia: Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026 Here's my prediction: 1. Reforms will be implemented. 2. Surcharges will be eliminated. 3. Credit card reward schemes will be reduced to UK levels. 4. Prices will remain unchanged as...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

Fair enough. Note this card will not survive the reforms. There's no way HSBC will be able to afford giving 2% back once interchange rates are crushed. Just note that credit card point earning will not get better under these reforms. They will get significantly worse, mirroring what has...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

It is interesting that more people on this forum aren't upset by these changes. It perhaps shows that there's a lot of people here who earn more by flying than by on the ground activities, that people are more dissatisfied with decreased award availability (which will become better as points...

Rewards can be devalued a whole lot more. These are currently what are considered the best credit card sign-up bonuses in the UK:

If you think the state of the credit card rewards market has gotten bad in Australia, it's about to get a whole lot worse.

    ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

Status with VA gives no additional award seat space on partner airlines. It all depends on what NH decides to release to partners. As you've found, NH consistently release some award seats in J on SYD-HND at about the 1-2 week mark, but not when the cabin is already full (ie peak travel times).

Alaska Airlines to acquire Hawaiian Airlines

I transferred a mid six figure amount to Alaska. Short hauls are a bit better. MEL-SYD J on QF is 15K on AS, which will be 19.3K on QF after the upcoming devaluation. The main benefit is free changes, so they serve as great placeholder flights (along with AA). You do lose the carrier booking...

Credit Card Offers Amex Platinum Card Benefits, Offers & Discussion

The US Amex changes are a response to changes coming to its largest competitor, the Chase Sapphire Reserve. They really have nothing to do with the AU Amex market, which marches to the beat of a different drum.
