    The C word, R U OK?

    The C word, R U OK?

Well, home now after Thailand and I must admit a very different trip to the "normal" return home. So a run-down; - Travelled down from up-country the night before and stayed at Le Meridien Suvarnabhumi, occupancy rate 15%. Amazing more staff than guests and sad to see a lot of the food wasted...

    The C word, R U OK?

Still getting ready to leave Thailand on Friday when i got an sms saying QF28 was cancelled and they would get back shortly. Must admit it hit hard after all the calls "to come home". waited a few minutes then called QF and i have to say they were superb. As the lady (who i feel really dumb that...

Second last day now in Thailand and counting the hours, but good news is i got my upgrade SIN > MEL which i nice. My wife wanted me to pay the $2800 for the seat just to be home. First time in my travelling life i'm starting to plan the trip back and what NOT to do/touch/see etc. A bit...

    The C word, R U OK?

I'm still here in Thailand working getting ready for Friday's flight via SIN. Ready for the two week lock-down but actually looking forward to it just really want to get home. This is not really the place i want to come down with as i'm sure it will be a local hospital . We heard this morning...

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

But forgot to add the BIG point, no bank here would touch the UK 100 pound i had to convert to baht. Four banks refused to touch the money because of the virus, which I'm now in the process of drowning with poor quality alcohol! WARNING to all.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

VIEW FROM THE TRENCHES Heading now into week two of the backblocks of Thailand and things have ramped up here. Being temperature tested now 3 times a day and all recorded in the official company document. I demand that my fellow office workers (good friends and can see the joke) be tested to so...

The view or two from my "office"

Oh, and i forgot to mention they have a lovely modern drainage system to take away all the cooking rubbish and wash up water!!!!! One benefit though is being an avid birdwatcher it certainly is a feeding ground minus the rats. I commonly see black collared starlings, Great and Vinous breasted...

The view or two from my "office"

Nice to see all those love pictures from around the world, but my office view is a lot different. Outside of BKK I live out of the factory dormitory and my view is the local food stalls. I've nick-named it "Ratville" with my daughter, as its amazing to see them scurry everywhere even in the...

    Flybe has collapsed it seems

I flew them a number of times out of East Midlands airport EMA as they had a very handy service to Paris. I was working only 45 minutes away. Great for a weekend hop, but 90% of pax were the cheap tourists and so frustrating going through customs and security there. Sad to see another one go

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

Just in the Thai office talking to my colleagues here about this post. They have always found our word usage a bit weird, but when i told them we have names for toilet paper i had them stitches; bog roll, ballot paper, star trekkers, etc, but when i had to describe the Collingwood scarf picture...

    Coronavirus (COVID-19) Panic Buying?

The upside of this is we might see a "surge" in newspapers. I could never truly understand the saying that "today's headlines are tomorrow's fish wrappers". Growing up in the country ours were torn into strips and hung on a nail in the toilet, which was of course outside down the path. And...

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

Latest Thai update; We are about three hours upcountry from BKK (and the nearest beach!) and they lined up all the workers in the yard, about 100 of them and took their temperatures, all passed. It was funny how they all lined up like a scene from the opening shots of "Hogan's Hero's"...

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

After travelling up to Thailand over the weekend, I've been cautious on the surroundings/people/areas, etc., and my own wellbeing. But suddenly started to sweat profusily, pespiration dripping off me and a very sore throat..... could it be????? But then i realised I'm back on local Thai factory...

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

Left MEL on Saturday, QF37, J was 3/4 full, Y was 40%. Downtown SIN was a bit quiet but you really didn't notice too much. Very few masks were worn but streets seem to be empty by 12am. At the SIN Botanical gardens next morning a lot of people were out and about, a bit like normal. But the...

P1 status run- can it be done?

What brings you down to earth very quickly is if you don't have status with an airline and you have to check-in in the Y line. And it hits home when you see the J people walking up to their counter and you still have 50 in front of you!

P1 status run- can it be done?

Status matching is "doping the horse"!!!!!! Has to be done with "bum on seat" and everyone at the starting line. Also includes Pt on TG, not just Au.
