    Scams like these

Check if they actually used your passport number. Just today I saw a similar situation where someone rang Qf, provided incorrect details and was still ‘authenticated’ by the call centre so the scammer could take over their qff account. Sorry this has happened to you

    Scams like these

A couple of years ago I was a victim of a spam bombing - the scammer uses your credit card to purchase something expensive (in my case 12 premium tickets to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi) and at the same time has hundreds of spam emails sent to you, signing you up to all sorts of mailing lists etc in...

    Strangest (weirdest) in-flight passenger antics?

Mine was a trip CBR - HBA via MEL - travelling with a colleague who had been up very late the night before finishing performance assessments :( . Three things happened: 1/ Boarding the CBR - MEL leg, I asked her what seat she was in - she checked and her boarding pass was exactly the same as...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

My comment quoted by you was made after your Boeing bashing comment. I don’t have any agenda, flew Qf on the Dreamliner twice in Feb, don’t own shares in Boeing or Qf, do have opinions and interest in software quality and company trust and I’m keen to understand the ultimate cause(s) as a...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

I don't think anyone is bashing Boeing (at least that I have seen) for this tragedy. It isn't yet known what the cause(s) are. However, companies like Boeing used to be held up as the epitome of software quality and trust and an ideal employer for software/hardware engineers and there is no...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

I know little about aviation but have had decades in software/hardware engineering and didn't have jobs with 'life critical' implications. My workplace used to take risks because we knew lives didn't depend on the software. The lack of redundancy and other aspects of the max and the company's...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

This guy posted a better quality video than most uploaded and makes a strong case that the RAT was deployed.

Australian women on Qatar flight internally examined

I think there is another aspect to this which might go some way towards why people did not expect this to happen. The women on the flight were apparently ‘in transit’ and this article states ‘The case has also raised questions over whether foreign women travelling through international hubs...

Australian women on Qatar flight internally examined

I think the company (and country) has put a huge amount of effort/$ into convincing people that they are ethical - take a look at their ads and their social media accounts (littered with posts about fighting breast cancer for example). Personally, I think being open to realisations that...

Australian women on Qatar flight internally examined

I read that too and agree. Appalling. I don't care how good their product is if this can happen.

    Anyone transferring/withdrawing qantas points?

I am keeping mine for now. I have about 900K. I just received my new platinum card which expires at the end of August 2021. My woollies everyday rewards and credit card keeps the points active (DON'T FORGET to keep your points active!). I will review if the situation changes dramatically and...

NSW TrainLink Xplorer train from Broken Hill to Sydney

Thank you. I like trains as much as I like planes 😀 and it was great to read your report 👍

What's the best unexpected gift you have received while travelling?

I was flying to the US in J on QF on the A380 for work right after an upsetting turn in my life. At the gate, I got the red light and then was given a new boarding pass to F (seat 1K). I don't know why but I suspect the check-in agent could see that something upsetting had happened. The FA was...

Positive Story - Prompt Refund Finnair and QFlyer

I have booked with Qflyer (aka Roundabout Travel) a number of times and I have been very happy with their service. They are based in South Australia and try to get you the best deal possible. I once found a great deal to Geneva via QF and Finnair and they matched it and even upgraded my...

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

OK. Not everyone on these boards has the time, inclination or expertise to read detailed articles with all of the complexities involved which is why I posted the article. Also, different people have different expertise and perspectives. Everyone is a bit unsettled by the current situation -...

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

Thanks for the (perceived to be rude) response. I don't really see what is incorrect about the perspective but each to their own. Perhaps you are a Boeing tragic. I used to be and I am just a flyer not a pilot or an airplane engineer but I was a software engineer and I have read many articles...

    Hydroxychloroquine - What Goes On?

I agree with this statement. I just recently came back to this discussion and still have a lot to read to understand all the new links provided. I will do this when I can get the energy and time after being fairly sure I contracted Covid19 in early Feb on a cruise ship before the tests were...

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

Apologies if it has already been posted but it looks like Boeing will have to jump through more hoops. With the virus, it looks more and more doubtful that it will fly very often (except for perhaps Southwest - good reminder to self to avoid!) Boeing 737 MAX Needs New Computer Systems to Meet...

    Whats your booking killer?

For the past couple of years I have been booking direct rather than through third parties. For country or suburban properties I try to book properties that adjoin/are affiliated with clubs (e.g. RSL or sports clubs) as they seem to be good value, support the local community and generally have...

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

I guess it depends on when the virus is under control and the price. I know I will be avoiding travelling on them when air travel opens up - not only related to safety but mainly because of the lack of ethics the company demonstrated. Trust is destroyed easily and takes a lot of effort to regain.
