Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

So it looks like Qantas has you by the golden-handcuffs. So that's 1-nil and I suspect that the same can be said of most. I may have said it before (I can't be bothered checking that I did because this thread is waayyyyyy too long) but can I mention a few observations :- 1. The removal...

Has CBA implemented transaction fees for AUD transactions overseas?

It's not much better with overseas ATM fees. Whilst in Vietnam recently I had 2 methods of acquiring Dong. The first was to change cash at hotel desks, travel agencies, jewellry shops, etc. Never any problem and always a good rate (above 20,000 Dong to the AUD). The other method was via...

Vietnam Airlines - Bangkok to Ha Noi

I recently did a Hue to Hanoi hop with Vietnam Air, after deciding that the overnight train was not for us. Actually it was my wife who decided this, due to the fact that at the end of our overnight train journey from Saigon to Danang the cabin attendant "prepared" our 4 beds (soft sleeper) by...

Should long term Qantas Club membership be recognised?

Strange then that my Summary page includes this illogical section :- "Additional Status credits required to obtain next Loyalty bonus: 135" Discounts for longtime QC members is consistent with the above, but Qantas is perfectly entitled to pick and chose who they display loyalty back to...

Should long term Qantas Club membership be recognised?

I agree with this approach that a few members have mooted - frequent flyers get certain benefits associated with flights, frequent QC members should get certain benefits associated with lounges. Discounted lounge membership on a sliding scale after 5/10/20 years (dare I call it...

Why a $75 QANTAS fare is better value than a $55 DJ Fare

A more correct title for this thread would be :- "Why a $75 QANTAS fare can be better value than a $55 DJ Fare" For me I would pay the extra $20 because I only just do enough flying to gain gold status with one carrier and (for now) the chosen one is QF. For work trips I can also get around...

    Vietnam's visa for bovet border.

To my knowledge the visa on arrival only works at Saigon and Hanoi airports - not for border crossings. I think you may need to start from scratch at Bavet but I am not sure if visas can be issued on the spot. I would make enquiries at Phnom Penh.

Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

Not wishing to pick on Boss reggie in particular ..... but his example is instructive. Due to the withdrawal of anytime access (and regardless of the very sensible compromise position subsequently made due to logical arguments), Bossreggie has decided to move a significant amount of business...

    The Operational Upgrade Thread

A bit old news now, but when I checked in at Sydney to QF87 on the 15th of December I found that the entire family had been upgraded to Business for our flight to Hong Kong. Most unexpected as the other 3 were on classic awards and I was the only paid seat. We connected through to LHR on QF29...

Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

For once I agree .... childish, sulky and petulant would have been the terms I would use. BTW ajw373 - have you ever tried to argue the case with someone from the flat earth society, or the 'Apollo moon landings were fake' brigade, or any religious fundamentalist for that matter? Then you...

Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

I am absolutely gobsmacked by the comment "Loyalty, btw QF, is a 2 way street". This is exactly what Qantas is now saying - if you are going to sleep with the opposition then don't come around for dinner at my place before/afterwards because that is plain insulting. And good luck to the...

Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

Patronage of QC lounges is obviously increasing, but only Qantas knows for sure whether the larger proportion of that growth is from paid or statused pax. I have experienced fairly severe over-crowding at peak times (Canberra is the worst) so I'm not sure which lounges you frequent. In any...

Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

This is typical (as Basil Fawlty would say). This thread seem to start off as a petulant tantrum of Platinums who simultaneously screamed about the removal of anytime access whilst claiming they hardly ever used it. But in between the pages of threats to swap loyalty to other airlines or guest...

Platinum "anytime" lounge Access ceases from 1 February 2011

Anytime access to the lounges is illogical and the screams of rage are quite frankly risible. If you want to use the Qantas lounges then fly with them, or is that too much to ask of the Precious Platinums? Of far more concern to many and a real benefit withdrawal is the new rule that QC...

Ruby Rose upgraded as a friend of staff.

Apart from the fact that there are 37 posts (now 38 - Doh!) about her on this thread. Actually that's not fair - there has been a side conversation about bullying and misplaced superiority, but most of the threads still concern Ruby Rose and her ripped jeans. And I don't think membership of...

Breaking the deadlock - Election 2010

Nice that he gets a big fat pension if he happens to be cut adrift by the Libs, but the $64 question is will he earn it?

Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

This kind of sums up this thread for me .... why do so many people go out of their way to buy stuff they don't really need just for the sake of a few hundred points? I signed up for the EDR card because we do most of the weekly shopping at Woolies anyway so I linked it and gave it to my...

Just how inadvisable is it to connect on different ticket numbers?

I've got a beauty coming up ; EDI-LHR-HKG on BA, followed by HKG-SGN on CX. The BA flights are 3 x awards + 1 x fare, the CX flight is a separate award booking for 4. There is a 2:10 transition at Hong Kong and I'm not sure if we can check our bags all the way from EDI to SGN, or will have...

    Qf Platinum Status Renewal

You could be right about the 8 weeks. I don't look at my Summary page all that often and even then I could very easily have missed the "1" in place of the "0". I just thought that Qantas made it clear in writing that you have been "comped". I'm sure I got one for PS about 10 years ago but I...

    Qf Platinum Status Renewal

My anniversary is the 31st of October and after a good start to my status year I went into a bit of a dwahl and got stuck on 470 SCs. After 2 years in a row at SG I was expecting a please explain letter from Qantas in the mail and was mentally making up my story, but ... no letter. It wasn't...
