Should J & F be AO? (Kids we dont want you in Business class!)

I agree. It's the three to five year-olds which are more likely to cause the most grief. So my main problem with MAS is why they don't have bassinets in First. The fact that infants are therefore banned is sensible from a safety viewpoint, but it seems to be anti-family in nature.

Virgin Atlantic crew sent 'abusive message' to passenger screens

I'm pretty sure that we have all done things that could be spun into the "bringing a company into disrepute" bucket, and in my personal opinion this does not reflect on the airline in any way. It was a stupid mistake by a couple of individuals, and if it had flashed up on my screen the only...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

Yes - value is very subjective, and often does not follow a sliding scale. But I STILL can't see the justification of spending $5982 in Premium Economy, $9482 Business, or (Brian forbid!) $19458 First, when these are 2x, 3x, and 6x the Economy fare respectively. Yes - these are Qantas fares to...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

Simon - that's no way to talk about your fellow AFF members! I .. I .. I quite understand - for you it's all about Me .. Me .. Me. But I prefer to take my family with me and do it as often as feasible. So to ME business class is a poor choice. . Yep - hearing you loud and clear. But it...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

Fantastic value - and I would have done the same. But the QF J product is not often a $10 uplift and I suspect your developing country's airline (not sure why you didn't name them or the route) doesn't fly out of Sydney to anywhere I want to go. I think people are losing touch with the subject...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

Extracta, you keep inferring that I am a fool that flys Qantas and suffers the ignomy of being behind the ruling class, when I could be in business class on some other un-specified airline. Please elaborate. As mentioned before, my family and I (that's 4 people) flew SYD-LHR (QF), GTW-EDI...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

But perhaps thinking and writing is a bridge too far? If someone said to me "Here's a great deal - for $5K we can provide you with 4 restaurant quality main meals, complimentary drinks, unlimited snacks, lots of first release films to watch, and a comfy chair that turns into bed. All yours for...

Australian Visa - Now Implemented into Passport Chip?

My old UK passport expired with 2 years left on my RRV, so for a while I was carrying both the old (with label) and new (without). Initially I was told I could get the label transferred across (for a fee) but later an immigration official told me that the RRV had been transferred electronically...

    Travel to CBR - DH4 or 73x?

The flight is so short there is really not much to it either way and I tend to go with the cheapest fare around my target times (often the DH4). Occasionally they cancel it and put me on the previous/next jet - an "upgrade" of sorts. Funnily enough when the turbo-prop does fly it tends to be...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

The Qantas "trap" got me and the family to the UK, Hong Kong and Vietnam for less than $5K last Christmas. Perhaps you can find me a deal in J on another airline for less? As I said before, if you are on some obscene wage that allows you to fly everywhere in business class then good on you...

Why fly business? I don't see the value?

My problem with business-class travel is that it is usually such a big uplift from economy that I would expect a truly spectacular experience. Anything less would be a disappointment. But with discount economy you gets what you paid for in all cases, and have a much better chance of having...

Free Virgin Australia Lounge access for Qantas Gold and Platinum members

Both. Though at my age the latter is a bit pathetic ... But it was interesting that the whole feeling in The Lounge was totally different to the Canberra Qantas Pub. It is more compact but less crowded and didn't have that feeling of desperation you get at the QC. And there were no...

Free Virgin Australia Lounge access for Qantas Gold and Platinum members

I used this promotion at Sydney this morning. Arrived 30 minutes early for my flight to Canberra and The Lounge staff welcomed me inside and also printed my return boarding pass for me. It was my first time in the new Lounge and for someone used to the QP zoo it was very relaxed. I only had...

[The New] What acronym for Platinum One

I'm a bit gutted that my suggestion in the original (and best) thread did not make the short list, but regardless I will resubmit my entry :- FU The "U" stands for Unobtainium. The "F" stands for

Air France passenger jet drops off radar

Another report AVweb with an interesting claim :- The pilots of Air France Flight 447 flew the aircraft into deep stall at 38,000 feet, never verbally acknowledged or corrected that condition, and the aircraft fell for more than three minutes at nearly 11,000 feet per minute into the Atlantic...

Air France passenger jet drops off radar

My bad. When the captain enters the coughpit the pitch was around 15 degrees - still an obvious clue I would have thought.

Air France passenger jet drops off radar

I am still stunned by how quickly this tragedy unfolded. Within a minute of the autopilot disengaging (for reasons not confirmed as yet but possibly due to inconsistent airspeed readings from the pitot tubes), the pilot in control had effectively stalled the aircraft. Less than a minute later...

Is this one of the worst pieces of no news work ever?

Unsurprisingly the vast majority of the "revenge" is about seats being reclined, and is mostly uninventive. I'm sure the AFF contributers can do better than this.

Air France passenger jet drops off radar

I don't recall any media story about the plane falling backwards into the ocean, but I am puzzled by this last paragraph in The Sunday Times article that was reproduced in The Australian :- "In the final chaotic moments, both Bonin and his co-pilot attempted to simultaneously operate their...
