When your arriving off a long flight your not usually hanging around the airport anyways, get off the plane, go through immigration, collect bags and leave. Don't think the arrival airport matters too much. On departure a different story.

Haven't done this with Qantas/AA, but on your European LCC's has never been a problem. Once got paged to the desk at the gate to ask if the additional person was coming, but no dramas.
