Re: 9 hour Layover at LAX Unless things have changed in 2 months, Qantas have a check-in desk open all the time at TBIT, so you should be able to do an early check-in and go sightseeing anyway.

BF booking in AA metal seat selection I must admit Spruce I didn't even look at the J fares. I got the Y fare with a post booking upgrade to Y+ for less then AU$1000 which I thought was pretty reasonable.
