    AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 100,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend

Re: AMEX Velocity Platinum Card - 110,000 Points / $349pa / $1000 Spend Has anyone used the complimentary fare that is provided on the Amex Velocity Platinum - I am wondering: i) is it only for the cardholder or can you give it to other family members? ii) is it return or one way? iii) what...

    Cheapest Point Flight to Europe

I have been looking through the VFF page for the cheapest point flights to Europe out of Brisbane/Sydney. I am very flexible on time of travel but the combination of 29 potential destinations with the 365 days in the year results in some 10,500+ combinations. I have done a few random pics but...

Where does your AFF username come from?

Translates into "trip" as in travel (NOT as in fall over :) ).

Do any Aussie CC's earn "cash back" rather than FF points?

In choosing credit cards the often overlooked component is the interest free period. Depending on how you use your card this can be more important than the interest rate or points scheme associated with the card. It's probably the offering about the Coles MasterCard (55 days) that makes it an...

    What's your hotel loyalty path?

For me hotel choice is driven by two factors: i) price; ii) proximity; and iii) availability of loyalty program hotels in the chosen destination. I have mega points in IHG (Spire) but they can't be used in Darwin, Brisbane or Cairns which are the three primary Australian destinations that I...

New Changes to IHG Rewards Club - 1st. July 2015

I was a little surprised that the Spire Elite Choice Benefit was between Gifting Platinum Elite OR 25k points. Don't know anyone that would value a Platinum Elite upgrade at 25k - I wonder if it is a reflection of the number of hotels in Oz versus US and maybe IHG membership is a more...

Lounge Access in SIN when flying VA on SG metal

I assume that is just for VA Silver - I though VA Gold flying VA code on SQ Tin will get you in the Lounge - Please tell me I have got this right as I am already booked.

    Stranded...

Recognising the Force Majeure provisions I would be inclined to investigate whether the weather event can be classed as such. i.e. should United have left Guam in the first place. My questions would surround the state of weather activity around Chuuk at the time of flight departure e.g. when...

    Renewal of gold status

Thanks, pretty well nailed what I thought. I don't use the existing 2xluggage allowance and while the 7 up to 3 would be nice I think I will focus on getting my partner to Gold. My loose equation is that over 2 years for me to retain (2x400) and her to make it (500) = 1300 so it should just...

    Renewal of gold status

@mrsmart - I have often wondered about the merits of platinum over gold. I'm rolled gold (or will be by the end of this month) but my rolling SC balance hovers around 600 and can't see it going up given that I am paying for my own tickets travelling double D discount 95% of the time. But, I...

Holiday Inn Express Spring Hill (Brisbane)

Now if they get a presence in Cairns and/or Darwin as well I will be very happy. It would be nice if IHG had somewhere on their site where you could see where the approved developments in Australia are going to take place but I can's see anything.

Could you live in a hotel?

I'm firmly committed to a hotel rewards program. Having said that, while it influences my decisions about where to stay it doesn't dictate them. Sometimes you can get bargains that sit outside the reward program and as such I like to keep my options open. But at 220 nights - if you can lock...

New options to upgrade with Virgin Australia & Velocity Frequent Flyer

Re: UpgradeMe? (Rebranding, bidding) Sorry not to response sooner Moopere. The upgrademe bid thing is only available after you have purchased a ticket - i.e. you buy your ticket and then you can see what is available and the price.

Could you live in a hotel?

Horses for courses, last few times I stayed in hotels I had to put up with coughpy lighting and desks that would probably only work for basketball players (and I'm not exactly short). At least with apartments you usually end up with a dining table that you can set to work on.

Could you live in a hotel?

I had one of those 'dark rooms' when I first arrived here years ago but mine was overlooking the garden on the outside so I can appreciate your experience. As to the HIX - it is is effectively finished, certainly the outside has been finished for months and I understand the rooms as well...

New options to upgrade with Virgin Australia & Velocity Frequent Flyer

Re: UpgradeMe? (Rebranding, bidding) Thanks for the response Moopere - At the moment if I get a flight BNE-POM it will cost say $300 and bidding for an upgrade starts at $300 rising to about $600 i.e. 100% to 200% of the original fair. A full flexi fare will cost around something like $400...

New options to upgrade with Virgin Australia & Velocity Frequent Flyer

Re: UpgradeMe? (Rebranding, bidding) I was looking on the AFF site to try and answer a question but can’t see anything that quite gets me there. The story goes like this:- Where available I have always bought Virgin saver (discount economy) tickets for my travel (and got to gold doing it)...
