Can't you call Qantas and ask them to not charge the booking points fee based on the fact that you can't get it to work online?

I am Melbourne based and will avoid a Sydney connection whenever possible - I HATE wasting 2-3 hours connecting.

I use a varity of cards but now always use the Qantas Amex for booking all flights. I'm getting 20,000 - 60,000 points a month - much more than I was getting before. If you spend a bit with Qantas it's certainly worth it - the bonus points are huge.
