Article: Should Qantas Have a Minimum Reward Seat Guarantee?

But is it better value than using your points to get a toaster? On the broader question of whether Qantas "should" do something, the fact of the matter is something rather quite different. But at least it's a fun academic discussion.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Yes, I agree. I expect that QR will be looking at ways of maintaining their additional services ex Australia in the event that "control" of VA changes to a hostile entity or that VA (as such) goes under in due course.

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

There might be a few too many loopholes with Velocity at the moment, but the new status requirements are somewhat over the top for Australia and will mean fewer people wanting to fly VA, unless the price is very right. And if the price is very tight, where does that leave VA's income? VA will...

Recommendations for a conveyancer in Melbourne?

As a matter of interest, where else have you bought houses?

    Wise debit card

Yes, of course, but there are other options that don't have such an ATM withdrawals limitation. Perhaps I should've just used my BankWest card (or my Ubank card, or my MacQuarie card).. I'm finding that the Wise account is basically only worthwhile for International transfers. And that's fine...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Yes, that's a very realistic view. As for me, I'll enjoy the benefits of Plat for another 15 months (only Row 3 and fly ahead are relevant to me), while flying VA infrequently (only when it's the best price/schedule) and only when it's in the lowest Y class available. Lifetime UA Plat gives me...

    Wise debit card

No, apparently there is a 2 withdrawal pm limit before a fee is charged. Nice to know that (and now I do). Wise isn't quite the lovely pseudo bank that everyone thinks it is. From now on I'll be restricting its use to international transfers. Surely we are better off using our BankWest or Ubank...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Done that, don't fly UA any more (but lifetime *G is useful). That's me. VA will live to regret these silly changes (if they manage to survive for more than a few years). Sure, Bain thinks it might have won the lottery with getting QR on board, but QR is only interested in one thing. That is...

    HKG - any airside hotels?

Quite honestly, I wouldn't bother with trying to find such a place (they don't exist). I tried that a few weeks ago and, really, there aren't any. Even the benches have armrests along them. So I got thrown out of the Wing at 3 am and waited on said benches until 5:30. Even got a few winks of...

    CX PE KUL-SYD

Indeed, and I hope to spend about 30 minutes there next week (how much champagne can I guzzle in that time?).

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Or perhaps the NY subway where you might get burnt to death by some vagrant. The London underground is perfectly safe. If you think otherwise, please provide your evidence.

Complimentary credit card travel insurances - Any adequate ones?

Well, I'm not sure if they're "adequate", but even though I'm over 75, with my CBA cards I get complimentary travel insurance if I charge $500 to the card. I did a bit of comparison shopping and found that for a 2 week trip, other insurance companies would want to charge me more than $500...

    CX PE KUL-SYD

I understood that it will be partly closed, but in any case if it is closed I'll be off to the Deck. They hide a decent enough champagne there near the Noodle Bar and some of the chairs are very comfy. I don't particularly like the Pier, but it would to some extent depend on the gate from which...

    CX PE KUL-SYD

No, just 4 hours (plenty of time to relax in the Wing lounge and have the odd glass of champagne). I noticed that the fare had gone up a couple of hyndred dollars today. Dis I do that?

Jetstar wants to fly to the Philippines

Seats.aero - a useful tool for finding Qantas & Velocity reward availability

Indeed. I have noted that seats.aero is not infallible, but it will give you a good head start. And if QF (and VA) don't release seats, it really won't help a great deal.

Is the Australian Landing Card Still Necessary in the Written Form?

The Philippines is pretty good in that respect too.

This may well not be an astounding fare to many, but when faced with flying from SE Asia in the October NSW school holidays it did seem to be not too bad at all. I'm arriving in KUL in J on an MH flight from Paris, so needed an onward flight to SYD. Needless to say that there are zero Qantas...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

That will save you heaps of $$$ and give you much more flexibility. A no brainer really (and it's what I am doing). Velocity have priced themselves out of the market.
