Cheap J flights SIN - BCN with Saudia $2200

Apart from the grog, I wouldn't be thrilled to transit Saudi Arabia. I have been there in a past life (with the Australian Govt) and no desire to ever go there again. Have to say that the embassy in Riyadh wasn't particularly dry, though. I really don't care how cheap the fares are, I just...

    How does Hertz treat you

I have to report that my Hertz rental from CBR downtown (Fyshwick) to SYD (Intl) a few days ago was entirely trouble free. And the people I dealt with were competent and quite pleasant. I was given an "upgrade" to a Subaru Forester, when I wanted a Mazda CX30. It wasn't too bad, however. But I...

    Hobart temporary lounge April 2025

Christmas parties tend to have a bit of booze available. What does the HBA lounge offer?

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Yes, I dislike JQ as much as you (maybe more), but in an exit row seat and with a small amount of cabin baggage (<7kg) it isn't too bad (if the price is very right).

AFF Review: Finnair A350-900 Premium Economy (HEL-BKK)

I'd have to agree with you Wilson. I've flown PE with SQ (777) and JL (787), both at the bulkhead. Quite comfortable and unlimited legroom, but the service is definitely Y. So not quite an amazing deal for the price.

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

Not that it's all that relevant. It's more sentiment driven. However I did take the opportunity to convert some GBP to AUD this morning, but I expect that the Aussie will fall a little further in the short term (but who knows?).

Overview of lifetime airline status tiers & requirements

I have lifetime UA Platinum status (*G), earned over 25 years of flying 2.5 million miles with United and Continental, mainly in the USA. It also comes with the same lifetime status for my wife, and lifetime membership of the United Club (lounge access). So not too bad really, but I no longer...

    CX Seat selection

Perhaps I should've clarified that I was in J, and the the seats were 1-2-1 (very nice for regional). Beats Qantas hands down (especially the champagne served with a smile). I'll be in PE later this year on a 777 so let's see how that compares. I note that people here seem to prefer PE on the...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

But they may be competitive on schedule. Try flying out of CBR on JQ.

Hobart Call Centre may be offline for a little while...

Yes, I think you're pretty much on the right track, but Serco is never a good example (well apart from how to be ultra exploitative and produce a poor result).

    Good luck!

    2026 travel plans

I have no travel plans for 2026. That's not to say that I'm not expecting to travel next year, but, for me, it's far too early to think about it. And this year also is pretty full on. I'w waiting until the travel landscape become a little clearer, for example when QF unveils its next round of...

The Velocity Status Run Master thread

I would have thought that VA status runs will become pretty much an extinct animal in the near future, because few people in their right minds would even bother. Much better ways to spend your travel $$$ than wasting them on trying to achieve the new VA elite statuses (statii?).

I'm in the QF Lounge thread

I'm currently in the SQ J lounge (heaven knows why). I don't know how they could find cheaper wine. Wolf Blass sparkling @ $7 a bottle? And the reds... Maybe i should head off to the FCL.

Which lounge would you choose Syd Int?

The title of this thread is very interesting. I'm currently at Syd Intl waiting for my delayed flight on TR to Singapore. So I entered airside around 10 am and went to the AMEX lounge and was told it was full, come back later. Then I went to the House and was told to come back 2 hours later...

Article: The Practicalities of Working on a Plane

I have always taken a decion NOT to work on planes. Planes are places to enjoy, with the odd drink, so work has no place there. I must admit, though, that on the odd occasion I have had to bend this rule, due to having been too slack the previous day (or something like that). However, I would...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Seems perfectly on topic to me. It really just reinforces how safe public transport is in Australia.
