Qantas Frequent Flyer changes coming in early 2024

It only leaves Qantas in a bind if it's something they're contemplating. I don't think they're in a bind about this at all... EDITED TO ADD: If you have irregular bulk releases, like they did two weeks ago for LHR and FCO, instead of a scheduled xx_ days prior drip feed, you are still selling...

Qantas Frequent Flyer changes coming in early 2024

FWIW, I think dynamic pricing of rewards is coming. A few reasons... 1. It will allow them to increase the raw count of award seats available. 2. It will allow them to spruik that they are now offering award seats cheaper than are 'currently' available. This will be heavily marketed. 3. It...

Qantas Frequent Flyer changes coming in early 2024

From what I understand, there is guaranteed award availability, even on sold out flights, if you're of sufficient status. I think your issue is that that status is by invitation only. The premise of a loyalty program is that the organisation tries to extract more and more value from certain...

We'd like your feedback on Australian aviation policy

I would like to see involuntary downgrade compensation regulated. My recommendation is as follows: * Where the sector is priced point to point, compensation is the difference between the actual fare paid and the lower of (the lowest fare paid in the downgraded cabin or the lowest fare...

Qantas Frequent Flyer changes coming in early 2024

Bear in mind the audience where VH used the term “improvement”. It was the shareholder group, not a customer group. Improvements for shareholders could very well mean “ways of extracting more from our customers whilst providing them less”.

    Car insurance

100% this. All insurance is not created equal. Just because both the middle seat in Y on Jetstar and a Suite on Singapore Airlines will get you to Tokyo, most AFFers wouldn't consider the two to be equivalent products. It's the same with insurance.

ACCC action re cancelled Qantas flights

Oasis Overland is not an Australian company. I fail to see how the actions of a foreign business, which is not regulated by the ACCC nor operates under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, has any relevance as to whether Qantas has an obligation to comply with Australian laws. Please...

ACCC action re cancelled Qantas flights

Sorry, I meant “bundle of rights”…

ACCC action re cancelled Qantas flights

I’m sure that’s true. But you know what might make that job even harder? Continuing to sell seats on those flights to even more customers, even though you already know you’re not going to be operating them…

We'd like your feedback on Australian aviation policy

FWIW, I 100% disagree with this. I think this would be a barrier to entry for too many airlines wanting to enter the Australian market. By my reckoning there's at least 40 airlines flying to Australia right now. Most of them are headquartered overseas and have very small numbers of employees...

ACCC action re cancelled Qantas flights

I think it's a lot easier to get your head around it if you believe it's just complete spin, instead of a genuine response...

ACCC pressures Virgin to lift travel credit expiry [update - Virgin forced to extend]

Yes, well, she has $15k of FFC and she's choosing not to redeem it. It sounds like she's made the decision never to fly VA again either, particularly given that VA no longer fly to the one destination she wants to go. That's her prerogative.

The view or two from my "office"

At the risk of being pedantic (yeah, yeah, I know, who would ever be pedantic on AFF, right?), do you have your 'ups' and 'downs' backwards? Nice shot of the Storey Bridge, btw...

When is your trip? And can we expect a trip report?

ACCC pressures Virgin to lift travel credit expiry [update - Virgin forced to extend]

Were you a creditor? If you were a creditor, did you object in court to the administrator's plan?

ACCC pressures Virgin to lift travel credit expiry [update - Virgin forced to extend]

I agree. But that goodwill is valued. The price they paid for that goodwill doesn't justify offering a blank cheque for anyone who was hard done by from the collapse of the previous business.

ACCC pressures Virgin to lift travel credit expiry [update - Virgin forced to extend]

I do the same for my customers. Actually, I do it on a pretty regular basis. The difference, as I see it, is that this lady, as unfortunate as the circumstances are, was NOT a customer of their business. Never was. Maybe you, in your business, would make an ex gratia offer to someone who has...

Domestic and international flights on different bookings/itineraries

What time of the year is your booking? As I'm sure you know, CBR can be notorious for fog at certain times of the year. I wouldn't risk at all it if it's May/June. Assuming you're looking at QF1502 (0630 out of CBR), it's On Time Performance is abysmal according to FlightStats. QF1502 OTP...

Recommended time allowance: FRA airport arrival to IC train departure

I'm not sure when you are travelling, but there's substantial construction work happening right now on the train lines in and out of Munchen Flughafen. Due to be completed in a couple of weeks, but lots of 'rail replacement buses' in the interim.

    Brisbane Airport upgrade

One thing I was a little disappointed with was a lack of addressing the complete fustercluck that is the passenger drop off/pick up area at the Domestic Terminal. It's currently incredibly inefficient and, with the proposed increase in pax over the next couple of years, only going to get worse...
