    Made any travel mistakes lately?

Can you look at a single trip policy that covers you just for this stay? I've previously taken out a single trip policy that provided coverage where my annual policy didn't. EDIT: Mixed up my tenses and didn't want to end up in the Grammar thread

Yeah. As far as I'm concerned this practice belongs in the WCMO thread...

Looking for advice on LAX International to Domestic transfer times

I'm guessing you're on FJ810. It has a pretty ordinary On Time Performance. Current stats have it as on time less than 50% of the time. 25% of the time it's classified as "Very Late" or "Excessively Late". As a result, I'd say there's a 75% chance you'd be fine. So for me it depends on...

Article: Less than Half of Qantas Points Are Earned from Flying

According to the Investor Day preso, Airline Redemptions (incl Partners) was ~110B points in FY23, Travel was ~20B and Retail was ~17B. By FY30, that mix is expected to be Airline 130B, Travel 40-50B and Retail 40-50B. But forecast growth in "Earn" is very skewed towards non-flying activities...

Article: Less than Half of Qantas Points Are Earned from Flying

Qantas Frequent Shopper Program. Have a look at the May Investor Day Presentations. Growth in earn and burn forecast in the order of 15% per annum outside of flying, yet only 3% for flying. The 3% figure is less than the forecast growth in capacity - meaning that there will be many, many more...

    Colesworth price gouging?

I've just given up trying to find an article I read earlier in the week, probably paywalled anyway, that talked about how, since inflation took hold, that supermarkets in Europe have had their margins significantly contract. Those in UK have contracted. The US - contracted. Australia/NZ on...

    Canberra Restaurants & Cafes

I'm a former Canberran, but am still a Canberra regular. I like Roy Jr on London Circuit and a short stroll from your hotel for breakfast/coffee.

    What cheeses me off

That’s fair enough. I’m not trying hard enough if I haven’t cheesed off at least one person every day!

    What cheeses me off

WCMO are people that use acronyms that you don't understand. Only for you to later find out that they used the wrong acronym in the first place! ;)

Mortgage documentation required for credit card application and mortgage payments through credit card

I don't know the ins and outs of it, but MrsG and I took out a new home loan last year. All our data was verified at loan approval. We were told to expect that they would reverify just prior to settlement. I know for certain that salaries were reverified. I have no reason to believe that...

Mortgage documentation required for credit card application and mortgage payments through credit card

Ummm... Maybe because it's their money and they're lending you what is, in effect, a life changing amount of money? Or because buying a house is a very expensive time with lots of ancillary, and perhaps unexpected, expenses that need to be covered beyond simply the house price, stamp duties...

Mortgage documentation required for credit card application and mortgage payments through credit card

Depending on how 'close' you are on your mortgage approval, certain things may be re-verified immediately prior to settlement. If you've pushed the boundaries on your mortgage, I wouldn't tempt fate.

Budget Electric Vehicles (BYD, MG, ...)

Based on test driving them all, for me the outgoing Model 3 was a clear third behind both the Atto3 and the ZS EV Essence, even before price came into it. Which I didn't expect going in. Obviously YMMV (or should this be YRMV - Your Range May Vary?)?

Budget Electric Vehicles (BYD, MG, ...)

There's quite a bit of different tech on offer in the different electric cars. In a lot of cases, it may be tech you haven't used before in a car. I'd highly recommend test driving more thoroughly than you would for a commensurate ICE car. Think about how you'd use the tech in real life...

    Australian Cricket Season 2023-2024

The big difference between the old Travis Head and the one we’ve seen in the last year or two is his composure. It felt like a couple of very senior batsmen at the top of the Australian order let themselves get a bit flustered by the atmosphere and occasion. OTOH, Head looked calm and relaxed...

    Credit card options for retirees

Really?!? When you apply for a credit card, you are asking someone to loan you money. They are literally lending money with an unlimited term on an unsecured basis. It’s THEIR money. They have EVERY right to determine who they lend to and on what terms.

who takes out travel insurance for trans Tasman or domestic travel

My FIL was refused carriage by both Qantas and Virgin, even with a medical escort. IMO, it was a fair enough decision given the complexity of his condition at the time. So he was repatriated on a medical charter. The cost of the medical repatriation flight alone was somewhere in the ballpark...
