    luggage suggestions for a newbie

I always buy new and inexpensive luggage before I travel anywhere. If I go to US I know not to lock my bag as they will unlock it using a pair of scissors or a knife to open it, During my past 4 trips via USA I needed a new bag every time. The same cheap bag will have to survive upto 6 weeks of...

Checking luggage through LAX with 16 hour connection

In my humble experience anything locked will be opened one way or another by US Security. The number of bags we had to replace due to our traveling to or via USA would fill many a luggage shop. It is amzing how ingenious US security is in destroying even the sturdiest of suitcases.

How does non-stoppver transit in US work (eg, SYD/LAX/Canada)

I am sorry, but I was never able to book through my luggage or have it tagged to either N.Y. or Guatemala, but was always able to do so and collecting it at destination when travelling from Sydney to Russia, Austria, Hungary or Finland via London. Btw.: Guatemala is not a domestic destination...

How does non-stoppver transit in US work (eg, SYD/LAX/Canada)

Last time when booked to Guatemala via LAX and Mexico City from Sydney, I had to collect my luggage in LAX enter USA and exit within a few minutes. Same circus in Mexico. It seems that US airlines have never heard of transhipping luggage from one to another airline. As regards transit...

Qantas Club Dress Standards...Stubbies, singlet and thongs....What the???

I agree that if you are dressed for the beach or the pub you should not be allowed into a Qantas lounge, not even if you have a first class ticket (probably purchased by the company, who should not employ a person like the one described). There ought to be some standards, which do not offend...

    Dual Passports AUS/UK

I found the EU queue longer than the one for foreigners i.e Aussies at LHR. Nevertheless I carry both passports, since they hardly cater for "others" in some EC airports.

    Food on Asian Airlines

I actually get sick by eating spicy food and always ask if a meal is spicy. I am afraid what a gorgeous Malaysian hostess means as spicy and what I do are probably not in the same class. To ask for milk while the stewardess is handing out food trays and trundling the huge trolley down the isles...

    Food on Asian Airlines

Having burned my fingers, - well it was my tongue which was badly burned on one mouthful of the only food I could get on an Asian airline, it is a good idea to order special food or at least inquire whether there is European non-spicy food available on your flight.

Tips to make it through Y long haul?

Contrary to other people, I do not believe that sitting in business or first guarantees a better night's sleep. I did not sleep when I used to travel first and now that I am paying myself for our annual one or two European flights I still don't sleep. However I stop halfway to Europe and suffer...

Taxi time from Bangkok Airport to Sukhumvit or Silom

Frankly, you should not care.... Taxi fares in Bangkok are regulated and are uniform to either the Silom or other areas. I believe the cost 400 Bahts + tolls, which you are to pay and since the majority of the travel is on the magnificent motorway the difference in travel to any hotel area is...
