Virgin Australia to lease more 737s

Yes the MAX 10 is still expected. No the MAX 10 isn't certified. My comment is that after the current MAX's there wont be a new B737. (Yes it's far off, but really B737's are work horses.) If the MAX 10 doesn't happen VA and a lot of others are probably a bit "screwed" and it's off to Airbus.

Virgin Australia to lease more 737s

I think the transition from F100 to B737 hasn't gone as they planned. As a VARA pilot (based in Perth, going back to base nightly), you would probably want to transition to the A320 over the B737. Two key reasons I can think of 1) A320 will remain based in Perth nightly 2) Qantas switching to...

Platinums can now use complimentary upgrade from a Choice fare

I find it quite poor and stopped bothering with business class. I used the choice upgrade on a flight in March so see how it goes. There should always be a crew member in the business section, leaving for 5 - 10 minutes is OK, but they disappear for a long time. I think we got used to the...

Tokyo Haneda slot - How will Virgin Operate it? [CNS-HND flights ceased Feb '25]

it was actually closer to 90% As I said in a previous comment, you'd paint it back to VA colours. QR's interests would be part owning VA and using VA metal. That was the previous strategy with multiple airlines owning VA. Though being owned by one airline makes better sense. (The Virgin...

Pretty much hearsay. May or may not be true.

The creative accounting already exists and has for ages as it dates back to when Virgin Australia was majority owned by International airlines.

Tokyo Haneda slot - How will Virgin Operate it? [CNS-HND flights ceased Feb '25]

They'd be operated as Virgin Australia ;-) (as my comment was based on Qatar acquiring a stake in VA. If they acquired VA that gets around increasing capacity as it would be VA flights and not QR)

    Gold Extension - Any Tips?

You'll probably find if you drop to Gold, a few months afterwards they will offer a challenge to re-gain Gold. I think to get any sort discretionary retention, you need to be very close to achieve retaining. They wont bite with flexi fares, as they're fully refundable to travel bank / $99 back...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Not really, I've been on a flight before and for business class they had pre-departure drinks on a tray. They offered business class passengers bubbles twice as they had some left. End result they were then offering to economy x row 3, 4 etc.

3 would be enough to offer a couple Australia <> Doha flights. (I did say as a start and also they'd need to be maintained in Doha.) It's a total long shot but some feasibility.

IPO is unlikely anytime soon. Post IPO is no guarantee of a widebody fleet. The best likely outcome is Qatar purchases 25% of Virgin Australia (no IPO). They could really repaint the VA widebodies they have back to VA (I believe the interior is unchanged) and use them to fly Australia <> Doha...

    I've just reached Velocity Platinum

I second this. I always used to sit in row 3. Now I sit row 14, second row of emergency exits. The first row I'm told doesn't recline. The benefits really came around being closer to the toilets and not feeling locked in with the trolley service.

    VA aircraft update requirements?

It's pretty well known that QF wont have the A330's for domestic long term. They aren't going to install flatbed seating into their new domestic airbus fleet. Hard product wise for the bulk standard domestic Australian runs, I don't think you are going to see much. QF, VA and ZL won't put in...

    Velocity Platinum Complimentary Upgrades

The has been the case for a long time. There's reports that whilst they release 2 reward seats, 1 will show and if the second one hasn't been taken it appears around 24 hours later. You can of course upgrade from a choice fare : Velocity unlocks Platinum Complimentary Upgrades on cheaper fares

ACCC pressures Virgin to lift travel credit expiry [update - Virgin forced to extend]

ACCC pressures Virgin to lift travel credit expiry [update - Virgin forced to extend]

Actually that's a bit wrong. - Virgin Australia (ASX company) in March 2020 - Deliotte (Voluntary Administration) (Administrators control the company) (21 April 2020 - 17 November 2020) - Virgin Australia (private entity) 18 November 2020 onwards This is why flight credits still exist for...
