Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

As commented earlier the authorization is for 5 years. When finalized there maybe a comment that a further authorization will not be granted beyond 5 years unless Virgin Australia is operating it's own aircraft and crewed by VA crew. That said, they would need to be ordering aircraft pretty...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Interesting parts : The ACCC has also accepted a court enforceable undertaking from Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways in relation to the conduct. The undertaking accepted by the ACCC today ensures that if final regulatory approval is ultimately not granted, then customers who have booked these...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Jokes.... ACCC asks VA why they have an application which states Etihad's poor network in which Etihad are on the verge on announcing additional flights (and rumored to include Perth). It highlights poor form from VA. Though it maybe that they knew and another reason for what appears like a...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

100% VA would have an internal legal department as they deal with airports, aircraft leasing etc. It would be much cheaper doing this inhouse. However, to what size the department is and the credentials is another. Whilst any company has an internal legal team, it's still normal practice to...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Pointshack have actually worded this very well. Though they then state ending codeshares with SAA which is wrong. The proposed investment by Qatar Airways is a pivotal factor in this development. According to the joint application submitted by Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways to the...

No they are not going, they are staying.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

The application does comment that for SIA they actually tell Virgin Australia at what price to charge. VA don't decide how many they sell the tickets for (seems a little bit odd). At the start of the original relationship it didn't go down very well at SIA HQ that VA were undercutting them.
  15. B

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

To enforce your comment :) The application is specific about no changes to the Velocity (reward) bookings. In which your comment is true because it's not a codeshare. Velocity and Virgin Australia are different companies. I think many forget the joint ventures all went during administration...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Don't get what you mean, it depends on your definition of "exclusive" as it can still allow limited access to others :-) SIA are staying (no codeshare to EMEA unless reward bookings) SAA, VS are staying (They didn't back track from that on the email on the 15th) Technically, yes the QR and VA...
  17. B

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Yes the 13th. I'm actually reading the submission on the 13th and I think they are then stating they want the exclusive partnership on the application. Though were specific they were keeping the existing relationships ex Etihad (page 4). (Already posted the table of "changes") 14th ACCC...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

First confirmation was : Etihad gone SAA and VS staying as is SIA no codeshare to EMEA but can redeem Velocity points to EMA. Second confirmation was : No head-quartered exclusivity.
  19. B

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

The request for exclusive partnership's with another airline headquartered in Europe or Africa wasn't actually requested (as not in the proposed conduct). Again read the ACCC's question, what I highlighted. The ACCC are saying you've stated all this but haven't asked for it, do you want it...
