I understood it was universal that an appropriate license had to be held in ones home country for renting a scooter/motorbike overseas. (It certainly is for cars right? Whats the difference? ) Or at least it is for your TI to cover you while doing so. Why is it not a "thing"? Perhaps...

We had something similar some years ago...and went to the Naritasan Shinshoji temple complex... then found an excellent small restaurant for a leisurely lunch..wandered the town etc.. Nothing exciting but it beat sitting in the lounge... (Actually..TBH seeing a "working" Buddhist temple...

The guards around the hotel area we stayed at on arrival in MNL (another major pistol competition...lol) were carrying shotguns that LOOKED flash from a distance..but close up looked very poorly cared for. And UNLOADED. lol The Hotels have scanners at the entrances (or did) so to avoid drama...
