    Amusing QF catering

I was returning at dinner time (ish...thanks to SYD being closed for an hour due to storms it was 1.5 hours late) yesterday too, and I read the lid of my dish "Beef rissole and mashed potato". I would dispute that, as what was actually inside was a piece of inedible shoe leather and some watery...

    Transit through Hong Kong

The Octopus card is definitely the HK traveller's best friend. Makes travel on bus, train, metro, ferry so simple. Even accepted in Macdonalds and other places as payment (though anyone who goes to Hong Kong and eats at Macdonalds needs to take a good hard look at themselves!)

China Eastern J or QF Y?

I shall be working on another project in China early next year for several months, but as times are hard the travel cost budget has now been drastically slashed. The budget that I'm given is only just enough to fly J on China Eastern BNE-SYD, though QF Y is just under half of that cost. So the...

    Sleep Medication for longhaul flights

Reading all this has made me realise how lucky I am to not have trouble sleeping when I'm tired. I know it's not necessarily relevant, but my tried and trusted method is a cup of chamomile tea (It may sound like something your old aunt may do, but I don't care ), and avoiding all alcohol...

    Transit through Hong Kong

Ooooh yes. The Airport Express from the airport to Central takes under half an hour from memory. It'd give you 3 hours+ in the city. Alternatively, Disneyland HK is pretty close to the airport!

    Transit through Hong Kong

I'd echo Mal's call for a trip into the city. 5 hours is a long time to kill at an airport - even one as good as HKG. My preference is the CX Wing lounge, but I haven't been back since the new QF lounge has opened.

    G16 Lounge Hong Kong

I'll add my vote for choosing an alternative lounge seeing as you do have access. I used the G16 lounge several times before I discovered that I was permitted to use the other, superior lounges. The only time I used it after that was one time I was flying KA and only had 15 minutes spare between...

    Accor A|Club

Tried 4 times, failed 4 times. In the end I gave up and opted for vouchers instead, though I did write them a nice little snotogram which got me no further than just some token apologies. I justified it to myself that it was worth more as cash redeemable vouchers than as QFF points. (2000...

    CHC Departure tax/levy/fee

An excellent time was had by one and all. It started off with a bargain air fare ($400+ dollars for 4 return) and carried on with the first night and third night in the All Seasons on Papanui Rd paid for with a|club vouchers. That's where it stopped though. We stayed at the Select Braemar...

    Attire for European winter.

It also depends where exactly you are talking of going in the UK/West Europe. If you are talking about the Highlands of Scotland in December, then prepare to freeze. You'll need some very good gear. However if you're talking of Southern Portugal or Spain then you 'd be looking at temperatures...

my cabin bag only challenge o/s

I find myself getting frustated these days when I get stuck behind someone checking luggage in. The process seems to take so LOOONNNNG.The same for exiting the airport. No need to guard 12.5cm of luggage carousel against other travellers wanting to get in and grab their cases first - just breeze...

    CHC Departure tax/levy/fee

Returned today from CHC (first time setting foot in NZ) and came across something that I haven't encountered before - a departure tax not included within the ticket price and payable separately. (I've searched on the forum and can't find it mentioned anywhere, though it only took a few minutes...

    Suggestions for Christchurch area hotels

The Lodge is less than a year old, having opened in Dec 2008, so there is still a brand new feel about the place. All fixtures and fittings working properly, carpets barely trodden on. Highly recommend the place. I've just got to save up to go back now!

    Suggestions for Christchurch area hotels

Just as a follow up on this one, I followed the excellent advice given and Hanmer Springs was the venue for the "brownie point" night. We booked the Select Braemar Lodge and Spa which is set a couple of kms outside Hanmer itself, but is a wonderfully luxurious place to stay. Every suite is...

    Christchurch international?

If you're still interested in knowing the opening hours of the Manaia lounge, it was definitely open at 4.55 this morning for our return to BNE. Not a bad lounge, though the brekkie spread was a little thin on the ground compared to standard QC fare, but it was deathly quiet in there.

I heard this quoted on B105 radio here in Brisbane too.

It's all too hard: do you have a frequent-flyer degree?

I used to be a complete novice - I'd pay for flights/hotels/holidays without factoring in that I could earn something or improve my status with the airline/hotel chain to get freebies. No longer! Now the points/rebates/status pay for free weekends away/ presents/bigger cars/better rooms. I...

Cheapest flights for CHC or AKL Nov?

Just a bit! We paid $479 BNE-CHC return for 4 (3A 1C - that's $60 each each way!) in a Jetstar BOGOF sale back in June leaving this Thursday. That's not going to help you looking now though!

    Accor A|Club - any joy?

I only have a problem with the Australian Accor properties. Every time I have stayed overseas, it has posted generally within a week with no chasing required. So far this year, I have stayed 7 times in Australian Accors and not one has posted. Even when I've entered a retrospective claim for 2...
