    New QF maintenance procedures outed

Errr, thewinchester, are you sure about that? That would be quite an impressive feat, even for the Mythbusters team.

United Airlines flight forced to land due to low fuel

If that's the right photo, then that is the mother and father of all technical faults! You can just see the editorial review meeting can't you, they're sitting around a table: Article writer "We can only find one photo of a UA plane, but it's lying on it's side, it's at the wrong airport, and...

Court orders Air Canada nut-free zone

I agree. She is/they are the minority with the problem, and whilst that may not sound sympathetic, I think the word that I'm thinking of is tough. Yes it's a serious, life threatening problem, but it's their problem, not mine

    Shanghai J or F lounges

Mr! Assuming you do mean PVG, the lounges there are much of a muchness. The so-called "First Class" OW lounge is about the best of an average bunch. Food is limited to the usual sandwiches, a pan of fried rice and some steamed buns. The best part is in the toilets - the toilet seats are heated...

UK brings in full body scanners

I have the same problem, normally at Australian airports they will tell me to take my wallet back out of the tray, even though I know that it will set the detector off (2x HK octopus cards, work security card of the proximity type the usual normal culprits). Most of the time, I try and empty my...

    Wot Hotels

I used the "Mystery" hotels a few times in the UK, but it was always easy to work out which hotel it was prior to booking, so no mystery, just a hefty discount. Now, though, it is much harder to work it out. :(

Mr & Mrs! China adventure - Trip report

Mr! There is a big problem in China with the acceptance of non-chinese issued CCs. For chain hotels and restaurants you should be fine, but smaller places can often be a problem.

    Tiger's $10 sale, good for price-match

Y2-10K (Year 2 a.d. minus 10,000 years) = 9998 b.c. OK, so the smarter ones may have come along and said that strictly speaking it could be 9997bc or 9999bc depending on whether you believe there could have been a 0bc/ad....

    The totally off-topic thread

Sounds like your house is nearly as bad as ours - we've got 4 live PCs, 2 others semi-live, 2 laptops and 2 netbooks. All of which back up periodically to one drive on one machine which is then backed up itself to an external drive. After a lethal virus infection a few months ago, I might have...

    Tiger's $10 sale, good for price-match

I had the same thought. IF Tiger only allocate ONE seat at $10, and everybody rings JQ instead, then in theory JQ could have an aircraft full of passengers paying $9! I did remark to the CSA that it was a bit spooky that all of the flights I was looking at had a JQ flight leaving within the one...

    Tiger's $10 sale, good for price-match

When you look at the price breakdown for one of the $10 TT fares it is $0 fare $9.09 taxes/fees and $0.91 GST. So technically that T&C may come into play. But when talking to the CSA (after he asked who the competitor was, in a "let me guess" find of way) he was quite open that there had been...

    Tiger's $10 sale, good for price-match

Beg to differ. According to the JQ CSA I was talking to (who was very helpful, very patient), providing the advertised fare is >$0, they'll match it. And they did. He was obviously checking the TT fare as I was talking and came up with the TT-10% value with no prompting from me.

    Tiger's $10 sale, good for price-match

Used JQ's price match for a bit of a grand tour in May for the 2MP clan. OOL-SYD-MEL-HBA-MEL-SYD-OOL for $288 for the 4 of us over 10 days or so. Ok, so there's no SCs, no FF points, but 24 sectors in total for an average of $12 each??? Equivalent price from QF's multi city domestic booking...

Further Security Measures for Flights to USA

That is a very sad but true statement. If the terrorists are determined enough, they will succeed. No amount of measures by the likes of the TSA will ever manage to stop every threat. As the statement given by the IRA after the Brighton bombing stated: "....but remember we only have to be lucky...
