Was surprised to find NZ J availability via Star Alliance partners when searching just now for AKL-PER flights (in this case, with Aegean miles - but you could also book with Aeroplan, etc.). You might even be able to book for 15,000 Virgin Atlantic points, although you'd need to call up to book...

This seems like a reasonable-ish price for EK business class. Under $600 round-trip from Bangkok to Da Nang. It's on a Boeing 777. Sadly, doesn't earn QF status credits (unless booked as a QF codeshare).

The T&Cs of the Etihad promo seem very poorly thought through.

70E has no seat beside it because 70D does not exist. The reason for this is that there is a hatch there which is the emergency exit for the crew rest area which is below the floor. So, there should be a bit more space beside that seat. 71D is popular for the same reason...

I assume you can still purchase these in conjunction with a QF flight from Australia? E.g. MEL-SIN on QF connecting to SIN-DXB-ATH on EK?

Are you talking about redeeming Flying Blue points on Qantas, or Qantas points on KLM? If the latter, KLM Business rewards book into O class when using Qantas points. I did a KLM reward flight last year and did not earn any QF points or SCs.

The Qantas business class seat is slightly more spacious. Both have a similar seat made by the same manufacturer, but Malaysia Airlines squeezes an extra seat into every second row. This means some seats don't have as much storage space etc. Other than that, MH probably has the edge in most areas!
