A few years ago, during a DSC promo, I booked 38 trips over a weekend, comprising 100+ flights.
Mostly on behalf of FIFO colleagues, though I did squeeze in a few for myself.
I called last month to get the annual fee waived and happened to enquire about switching from Qantas rewards to Diners.
They said that couldn't be done and would require starting a new application from scratch.
I didn't take it any further, but it suggests that the plain card is still available.
It's not just the cost, it's the hassle and uncertainty.
I've no intention of flying anywhere that requires anything more than proof of vaccination.
It might be a long wait, but so be it.
The Briefing has now been updated:
Hi
Unfortunately you received your Platinum One email from us yesterday that had a technical issue where you couldn't see your personalised details.
This has now been resolved and you will be able to see all of your activity below since the introduction...
From the fine print:
* The number of flights taken and distances travelled are based on flights on Qantas and our partner airlines from 5 October 2011 to 5 October 2021 where your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number was quoted in the booking. Correct as at 5 October 2021.
ANA currently have a promotion offering 30% off SYD-Japan fares from Dec1 to Aug 31 2022.
So from around $3100 SYD-HND in J.
Unfortunately though it's restricted to designated email recipients, but perhaps encouraging nonetheless.
You don't bother renewing your EF subscription.
Daily visits to FT and AusBT are now, perhaps, monthly. (AFF has, so far, been spared this ignominy).
Sunday nights and Monday mornings are no longer filled with a sense of dread.
