    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF71 finally departing after fixing a sticky starter valve for the air to start engine no 2. 1h45m late departure though more fuel loaded on expecting to gain about 30mins flying faster and lower.

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Delay on QF71 PER-SIN today due to a fault with the cabin lighting. Apparently replaced part and then reprogrammed the lights. Departing about 1PM instead of the scheduled 12:15PM. EDIT: and now we had a failed engine start. Taxi back to gate to investigate.

    PER-SIN QF Points Calculator

Yep, I've had this problem on and off all year. If you load up Developer Tools you'll see the request fails returning an error in the json, but the spinner keeps showing so the JS isn't detecting that Seems to randomly change whether it works based on destination - is very strange -- and...

    Narrow seats on QF B789

Writing was stuck on the wall some time ago for the A380s, they cancelled their 8 options earlier in the year: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-08-05/airbus-a380-customer-qantas-doesn-t-want-the-last-eight-on-order The Wi-Fi side of things I imagine is highly dependent on the...

    Narrow seats on QF B789

17.5 is fairly standard-ish, 17 is bad, but 18.0 is much nicer. Emirates A380 claims on SeatGuru to be 18" versus 17.5" for Qantas A380. Be interesting to get out a measuring tape and find out where the difference is. Also be interesting to measure most of the major airline and equipment...

QF PNG Visa failure and who is to blame?

Smart Traveller says the same thing: Smartraveller.gov.au - Papua New Guinea Australians require a visa to enter PNG. Since July 2016, Australians visiting PNG for tourism are able to apply for a visa on arrival at Jacksons International Airport, (Port Moresby); Gurney Airport (Alotau); Kagamuga...

Opinions - Qantas v China Southern, PER to LAX, Y

Side note, apparently cell phone usage even in airplane mode (e.g. to watch videos, read books, etc) is still not allowed on Chinese airlines even outside of Chinese airspace. Mobile phone use may soon be allowed on Chinese flights - Australian Business Traveller

    Uber overseas info.

Yeah that's gotten me once, but from speaking to Uber drivers it's actually quite common. I think they need to work on alerting the user to whether the pin matches your GPS and double check.. a live GPS position to the driver also seems like a good idea.

    Uber overseas info.

Generally speaking you can either user someones referral code (like mine: trentl9) and you each get ~$20 free [varies on currency of each person] -- or otherwise sometimes they run city specific promotions, which you could google for and are possibly mentioned on the city page.

    Flying Emirates? Start Training Now........

If the crew won't move someone from your seat despite boarding passes, seems to me like you could happily waltz into business or first and take an empty (or technically, someone else's!) seat without repercussion. Ha ha, yeah right.. mmmm. I think the earlier point to simply wait in the...

    Qantas 787 Event

Meanwhile I'm starting to make a habbit out of booking PER-SIN-DXB to save 11 hours in the same seat, also nets 30 extra SCs and is often cheaper. Travel time is a little longer but more bearable. PER-LHR direct does not sound appetizing in Y, even if I thought they'd fly it! I'll have to...

    Longest walks at airports

Singapore broke me a bit when I was watching a movie in the little theater until about 3am, heading for my 3:30am flight. Thought I had plenty of time but didn't realize that the inter-terminal trains stopped running from 2am. Was a 30+ minute walk.. speed half jogged it, got there 10 minutues...

Can You Stay on the Plane??

This is generally not allowed. For a few reasons: - A surprising number of these flights also will actually have you fly a different plane for the next hop.. the same flight number can often be more administrative for various reasons (cabotage, etc) - They need to clean the seats of those...

90SC short of Gold and one week to go

I disagree with those who "laugh".. it's a valid question, and to be honest the handling matters a bit. Unlike you, I got a much more friendly lady on the phone who was patient and checked over everything with me, made sure I hadn't missed any that didn't credit, etc. She did tell me they can...

Global roaming (data) sim ideas for India, UAE and Sweden trip

It's not specific to Flexiroam at all.. when you soft-switch the sim, it appears to the phone as if you unplugged and re-plugged a new SIM card. When you switch SIM, iPhone automatically unregisters iMessage for the old number, and tries re-register for the new number. This is the fix to the...

Global roaming (data) sim ideas for India, UAE and Sweden trip

FlexiroamX is working great for me, cannot recommend it enough. Have been using it through Singapore, UAE, UK, USA, etc. Yearly data expiry, $30/GB and works in almost any country... 3G & 4G speeds in most places. It also sticks onto your existing sim and you software switch between it and...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF12 from LAX-SYD was about an hour late yesterday [apparently due to late arrivals into LAX], missed most of the immediate connections (Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Wagga Wagga, etc) so everyone was rebooked.

Fly OZ to USA in Comfort – No F or J Class

American Airlines also have "Main Cabin Extra" which is premium economy-ish. mostly leg room I think. Qantas Premium Economy is pretty reasonable. I'd check that out. Same seats as the 737 business class (non lie flat)
