Looks like a lose-lose. The 2000 or so staff will mostly be re-employed under notoriously dodgy contractors with a significant reduction of benefits and wages along with the expectation to work longer hours where possible. Travellers will feel the brunt of this too, expect more lost/damaged...

Anyone seen any new promo codes floating around? I'm looking at dates in Dec for SYD-BNE. VA's cheapest flights are at least $100 more expensive than QF and they're not offering lounge access, catering etc. I'd be shocked to see anyone fly VA if QF is cheaper and has a better offering. o_O

Make the assessment based on your budget/needs. Loyalty right now is not worth pursuing and it's very likely your status will retained anyway.

Got my letter in the mail too. I have $1000s in future flight credits and half a million vff points. My plan to burn through all of that when travel resumes and re-evaluate whether I want to continue with the airline. Hopefully by that point there will be a clearer direction.

They must be desperate for cash, this is a bad move in the long run as it puts a heap of liability on the books while also driving customer dissatisfaction through poor value point burn options.

VA should instruct cabin crew to pick up supplies from supermarkets on the way to the airport for J pax if their catering contracts aren't in place. Emirates already does this in special instances for their premium cabins

The vast majority of plats are in the same boat as you. I'm expecting there to be a number of generous boosts to be available later in the year/early next year for pax to maintain status, it would be suicide if they didn't try to retain their most loyal base.

Bain intends to retain the lounge in some form. There hasn't been an official statement on what the offering will look like when they re-open.
