Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

I don't think UA would be pleased to see QR Aircraft flying on Australia/US routes, even if it is technically a VA flight.

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

The new Qantas Points calculator is generally good, but it's missing some of Qantas' own routes! In fact it's missing QF1, their flagship route! You're telling me Qantas offers First Class from SIN to SYD, but not from SYD to SIN?

QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Just called at 10:10pm AEST, got Hobart (first time getting Hobart in a long time). Tried QF292/36/38 all with ~2 I seats in November - all declined. Was able to get First Class released on QF (A5) released from SIN-SYD though. Not my preferred option, but it is still an option. Currently...

    eSims, what is your experience.

Yeah, it's a bit of a messy setup depending on the phone, but it's the feature called "Allow cellular data switching" (iPhone), "Switch mobile data automatically" (Pixel), or "Backup Calling" (Samsung). Depending on the phone, it will either just work if enabled if your Telstra SIM is roaming...

    eSims, what is your experience.

I *think* this happened with the migration to the Upfront plans, since there's no more PAYG roaming. Anyway, I usually just have my phone set up so my Telstra SIM "WiFi" calls through my second local data SIM, so I can make/receive calls and SMS at any time whilst overseas (even when...

    eSims, what is your experience.

Yeah, that's how it works. Calls when you're connected to wifi are not considered roaming. If you want to receive calls over the mobile network, you'll need a roaming day pass. I'm surprised it didn't go to MessageBank though.

    eSims, what is your experience.

...or use Telstra WiFi calling whilst overseas to make calls and send SMS for free :) I do wish there was one carrier that had both cheaper daily roaming ($5 - Optus & Vodafone) and free WiFi calling whilst overseas (Telstra) but alas

    eSims, what is your experience.

Has anyone used RedTeaGo directly before? My understanding is that a lot of the new smaller providers are just reselling their services. Also I believe the Klook eSIMs are rebadged RedTeaGo. I might give them a shot next time instead of my usual choice (Ubigi) as they're slightly cheaper, but...

    eSims, what is your experience.

Yeah it's still an eSIM per plan, as they're just reselling carriers in HK, Thailand etc. with cheap roaming plans.

    The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

You can upgrade Classic Rewards, and a Classic Upgrade Reward is your best chance as opposed to using the Bid Now system, since they are processed first.

Fraud on Velocity Frequent Flyer accounts

I'm still curious how people are getting hacked - is Velocity customer service getting social engineered? Is it just reused passwords? Phishing? A weak link in the password recovery system for Velocity accounts (as in, it asks for information that can be found from other data breaches etc.)

    Velocity Family Transfers Online Suspended

The juicy targets are those flying J and F though (in terms of points earn), and I'd imagine those people usually have FF#

    Velocity Family Transfers Online Suspended

I wonder if it's related to FF# being replaced on Qatar Account - FlyerTalk Forums and Help! Points for QR flight not credited. Still being accused of lying. At least one case there of someone's FF number being replaced with a fraudster's VA number You'd think so, but the above cases seem to...

Cost for airlines transferring you to a rival

I can't find a source right now, but I remember a spat between the US Majors where DL was complaining that AA was rebooking pax onto them significantly more than DL was rebooking pax onto AA. Did this happen or am I remembering things?

Qantas Promises to Fix Ongoing Reward Flight Ticketing Failures

Before they made this change the wait time was about ~15-20 minutes, so I reckon someone got a KPI or something based on average time to answer call, not realising (or more likely not caring) that the experience for customers is significantly worse with the outsourced call centres.

Qantas Promises to Fix Ongoing Reward Flight Ticketing Failures

During 2021 and earlier Platinum members generally only got the Hobart call center, but nowadays the only difference I can see is that we go to the front of the phone queue so there's nearly no wait. Unfortunately there's not much benefit to the fast answer time if the person picking up the...

Qantas Promises to Fix Ongoing Reward Flight Ticketing Failures

Does this imply that previously, the ticket handling queue was not ordered to put the most time sensitive bookings first? That seems like an incredible oversight for an airline. Ever since they got a significant bunch of outsourced call centres to handle the call wait time crisis of 2022, the...

    Status credit from Qatar flight

Yeah that's annoying, but hopefully they see your ticket and realise what's going on.

    Status credit from Qatar flight

To confirm, you flew on a QR flight number such as QR4990 or QR4992 and your ticket does not show a MH flight number? If this is the case, then Qantas denying you points is in error. You should've earned 4,250 Points and 100 SCs. Best way to resolve this is to email...
