    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

    No wonder Sean got annoyed.

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

As long as you're not naive enough to expect that nothing else would be changed, fine by me. Better the devil you know, in my opinion. It is not realistic to expect that someone should be able to fly multiple times in business class for "free" just for opening a credit card.

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

So what makes you think that pricing rationale breaks down at the lower end? There's no reason to view "Awards" as anything other than part of an overall pricing strategy. That should be immediately obvious from the way they recently changed pricing for Y awards only. They knew the pricing...

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

The "limited" or "availability" disclaimer really has nothing to do with it. Just like they don't choose to make every single seat available as a Red e-deal. From their current sale: Qantas international flights from Sydney Fares are in Australian dollars and include taxes, fees and carrier...

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

OK, thanks, I understand your point, but I don't agree. You say it's an empty seat, I say it's just another way for Qantas to make money. The "empty" thing isn't written in stone anywhere, it's quite possible that the pricing of awards is just part of the whole spectrum of pricing and yield...

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

You make it sound way too binary. Are you saying that Qantas is failing to sell those empty seats even as award tickets because those awards are too expensive?

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

The first paragraph is basically just a straw man, as is the last. And is pretty much contradicted by the middle one. Qantas *are* selling awards in a way that makes them money. Which is presumably why the consumers are complaining. They can even make a WP feel special by giving them the right...

    Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

It's a really facile argument. There is a points component and a cash component to any award offered by pretty much any airline. The value of the cash is known to all. The value of the points is arbitrary. QFF already sell as many awards as they want to at the combined price of the two...

Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion I also like the way the officers etc. never seem surprised to suddenly have to deal with a whole lot of people arriving from overseas. SYD and MEL can be a bit like Groundhog Day at times. Or Pulp Fiction. ("English, mutha****a, do you speak...

Why does QF penny-pinch so much on domestic J catering?

To be fair, he might have just been sheepish about what he had to offer you.

    BNE-SYD-LAX-BNE VA Y US$266 on Orbitz [gone]

Harsh when he or she is personally affected. And it's not as though they're not aware at this juncture.

    ANZ Cancelling or Suspending Points

Not worth it in my opinion. Incidentally, I *get* that people can't always write English well, but there also seems to be some kind of scam-aesthetic to font choice and layout now... are peasant morons more likely to respond to that kind of page vibe?

    Singapore- Is 7 days sufficient

Really not sure how Singapore-specific this advice is.

    Virgin Australia Saves the day

And for the contrarian take: you read these things enough, you become tired of the attempts to be the next Oliver Beale. It's so last decade.

VA call centre: Incredible incompetence (flight status)

"Incredible" means hard to believe, so that doesn't work for me vis-a-vis VA call centers... But while the circumstances and timing were unfortunate for you personally, this should not be made out to be a big deal.

Now Boarding ... Chicken or Beef?

Really positive feedback *after the flight* is the best thing you can possibly do. Go out of your way to give it if you're happy. The "gift" thing would be awkward for many of the airlines I fly, and it also seems insincere if you've bought it before you even know if they've "served" you well...

Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion So FRA F was fun enough, but I am perhaps not the target market (don't smoke cigars, not especially interested in cars). I actually did a water flight (cough flirting with the dude on water duty), and basically tasted 15 or so types of water...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

LOL. Exactly. - Just go over there and earn a safe 4%. - Where? - Ummmmmmm.....

Qantas Staff Class - the new Business Class cabin

I completely agree with you. Thank you for demonstrating my point. There is a very clear "right" side to this argument to all but the most unreasonable.
