Best/Cheapest fare from Melb to Oslo

Finair is also showing ~1700USD with stops in Singapore and Helsinki. Total travel time 27 hours. Norwegian air looks to be approx $850-900 USD if you want one peice of luggage as well for BKK>OSL return, however they only fly on a few days so you would have to match up the dates/times.

Hey JB, here is a video of some German folk taking an A380 into San Francisco. Do you notice any differences between the way you do things and how they do things that stands out? I found it interesting that the control tower were giving speed commands to the aircraft, I knew they controlled...

Classic Awards new dates - what time of day added

I'm not exactly an expert, but I have found the best way to get quick access to classic award seats is to set up an alert on expertflyer. I could have saved quite a bit of money if I had done a bit more research before booking my trip.

I am looking to book a classic award ticket using my Qantas FF points on an American Airlines flight. Can someone please explain how this is done? I went to expert flyer but I'm not sure how to set it up so it shows the seats AA allocate to Qantas for classic award bookings? I understand it's...

This will be my first time renting a car in the states - will be renting from MIA for a few days. Any recommendations on a company and other problems that may arise due to the international license? Is it worth purchasing the liability and loss damage waiver?

When a jet completes a journey and is re-fuelled is it ok to just top up the tanks or do they need to remove the left over from the previous trip. Who is in charge of making sure the plane has the correct amount for its next journey? Are you aware of any cases where a fuel gauge was off and a...

    Malaria Medication

I worked for a few months in Africa (Ghana and Cameroon), I decided not to take the anti-malarial's. We got given a presentation on it which suggested we take them because the side effects are less damaging than malaria and possibly death. What was said above is correct, the fact I wasn't taking...

    Ask The Pilot

Appreciate the answer JB, is there anything other than actual flying and SIM exercises that form part of a captains training/maintenance of skills? Does Qantas send you on any leadership courses etc.

    Ask The Pilot

Is there a general consensus of pilot quality within the airline industry? Are there any guys out there that are recognized as being the best? If you were going to build the "perfect" pilot what key attributes and training would they have?

I take it you have no interest in becoming a check/training pilot? Do those type of positions get suggested by the boss or is it up to the individual to apply for it?

    Sol lineas Aereas Airlines Advice

It may sound bad but my view on it is - when it's your time to go then it's your time to go.. Might sound morbid but the chances of dying in an plane are extremely slim. So don't worry about it and enjoy the flight with SOL !!

    Ask The Pilot

Hello JB, I always have a keen eye on the pilots when they arrive. I noticed on one flight that there were two "captains" each had 4 gold bars on their uniform and on another flight there was a normal 4 gold bar captain and another guy with 4 silver bars - what do silver bars mean?? Is it common...

    Sol lineas Aereas Airlines Advice

I have flown with SOL a few times within Argentina. They are fine when the flight is on time, like all flights in Argentina that is never a given. Obviously the recent crash doesn't help their reputation, I think you will be fine though - unlikely to have another incident so soon.

Thanks for the info. So my understanding is I quote the flights I wish to fly on with dates and check if there is availability for a classic award (that is the only option)? Do I only pay the 6000 points or $60 AUD per person after the booking is complete? Am I charged anything just for finding...

    Ask The Pilot

Hey JB, do you find it difficult when you are a passenger on an aircraft versus being up the front in control? Do you notice every movement the plane makes and instinctively question what's going on up the front? Is it possible to judge a pilots skills from the passenger seat, eg if they over...
