Philippine Airlines to introduce MNL-AKL via CNS

Operated by A320. Cairns does make a very central midpoint between MNL & AKL. Assume PAL will have 5th freedom rights on CNS-AKL, otherwise can't see it viable. MNL-HKG-AKL on CX would be my preferred route if you put price aside.

Hola! Around South America on LAN

Great TR RooFlyer, loving the photos of Iguassu, brings back fond memories. The border crossing between Argentina & Brasil is indeed a interesting experience in a good way. Also agree on your thoughts about taking endless photos of similar things, when eventually the sight of this beauty &...

Bangkok Airways now available for oneworld Global Explorer fares

When I saw the email from Oneworld in my inbox, I misread to think Bangkok Airways was joining the Oneworld Alliance. Wishful thinking.

SYD to CHC Food service was embarassing

If that happened to me, I would expect the cabin crew to proactively exhaust all other possibilities before saying, you will have to go without. Offer something from business, snacks, even some fruit from the breakfast menu.

Any Business lounges in Shanghai Pudong (PVG)?

Stayed in the Airport hotel in Sep last year after missing my flight. Not luxury but comfy for a sleep. Rate was not bad for a walk up. There is a reasonable bar on the top floor which had better wifi than in the room. Hotel has a buffet or save some money and go to food court downstairs.

Qantas point earn rate on LAN & TAM to be reduced

Agree that full earning with partners may not be the norm, unlike airlines such as AA, CX, BA which offer their 'loyal customers' an extensive international network, QF has a very limited network. When the only choice is OW partner or other, Qantas does not care or want to reward our loyalty...

Opal card trick to get unlimited public transport in Sydney for $15/week

USDM & AA account balances to Merge from March 28th

re: USDM & AA account balances to convert from March 28th Trying to decide to book now with USDM or wait til AA merge for a SYD-SGN J return. Advice needed. I know AA will be only 70k vs 90k USDM, however for the outbound the only flight available for 2 pax in J is: SYD-PER-HKG-SGN. Will this...

Agree, 'Transit only' has never invoked any further questions for me.

6 1/2 hrs stop-over in BKK: stay or walkabout

2 stops or 4-5 mins in a crowded but air conditioned train to get to Siam... hmmm. Though I could see the lure of F lounge calling, I'd rather that than Townhall @ Sydney peak hour.

SriLankan Airlines to fly to MEL

Agree, Australia (not all parts) to LHR/Europe is very well served by *O members. With CX, MH, JL, BA, QR, and now UL. Plus there are the AY services with codeshares Asia-OZ. More choices for us QFF/*O addicts.

    QF MEL/SYD/BNE-HKG $599 Return!

it appears the el cheapo outbound SYD-HKG flights have mostly sold out, plenty on the return inbound, giving $709 fares at best. It's only $110 more but enough to stop me booking a long weekend trip that I really can't afford lol.

    QF to Haneda

In my very optimist outlook I was hoping, Qantas would surprise us by restarting PER-NRT, with onward codeshares with JL/AA to Nth America (not so much LAX, but NYC, ORD & Canada) and AY to Europe. This way with their partners QF make a claim they do service PER internationally.

    United Considering 10-Abreast 777 Retrofits

Agree the 1-2-1 staggered or Herringbone configuration is premium in the modern day J offering. However I believe the 'Standard' reference is based on a regular or traditional front on seating.

Qantas online chat - customer service live

In my company, staff can be assigned up to 6 chats at once. So very likely Qantas would have a similar setup. As it is new, my guess is Qantas may take a conservative approach and have limited chat team, if demand warrants they would expand this service, on the expectation phone calls are...

Boarding via the rear stairs - Qantas flight

If I find myself sitting in the back rows, then rear stairs are great. Sometimes on DJ I will purposely choose the 2 or 3rd last row, though occasionally can get stuck when rear stairs are not operationally on arrival. For people that don't like them, you have the choice to wait and use the...

Nice OW Emerald seat selection touch on LA

Very cool feature. It's these little touches that give loyal customer that unmeasurable delight. Being unmeasurable (well directly) it's always a guessing game for a company to invest in these little touches.

Holidays thrown into chaos after AirAsia cancels direct Bali flights

Same as why someone would fly an LCC for a non-wedding trip.... in the eyes of that person it may offer the best value and/or scheduling. Now planning to attend a wedding within less than 12 or even 24 hours after schedule arrival time is another question.
