    Oneworld separate ticket interline changes

This is correct - although F check-in at SYD had no idea about it a couple of weeks ago - all they did was repeat the "you know the policy is changing" - they were surprised when I showed them the new policy - had no idea at all. For reference, the policy states: "Are there any circumstances...

    Is loyalty dead?

Actually - it's not. What you describe is the very basis of a loyalty program - which is about behavioral loyalty. It's called operant conditioning, which no doubt you know about if you recall BF Skinner. The carrot going away and the customer going away too is a classic case of "extinction"...

    New VA Fare Structure

True... but given that VA awards points based on fare, removing the Status Bonus is petty considering Getaway Fares are supposedly cheaper than the others (and therefore earn less anyway).

    New VA Fare Structure

The inference was that the only time he would be earning less status credits would be when flying with family on Getaway fares. (But that he'd still safely make status on Elevate fares for work travel). But on Getaway fares there are restrictions on benefits - such as Fly Ahead and Status...

    New VA Fare Structure

Not a bad analysis and not a bad result. Except for the status benefits which you are no longer entitled to receive when flying with your family on leisure trips. This is the problem with the new structures. The new SC structure is actually quite decent.

Program Update: Virgin Australia’s Fares For You

A fundamental misunderstanding of airline economics and the way Frequent Flyer Programs make money. 1/ Ignoring the FFP and just looking at a singular flight - of course you want as many high-fare customers as possible. But given that the flight is grossly unprofitable if you simply kick off...

That's Trippin' I presume you're referring to this article.... https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-success-frequent-flyer-programs-driving-away-david-feldman-gaicd Summed up best by: "The focus on chasing partnerships and ancillary ventures risks forgetting that the foundations of any...

Program Update: Virgin Australia’s Fares For You

In fairness - the SC changes are quite reasonable, and at first glance, I'm pretty supportive of the SC changes. In fact - the SC changes (including the modest reduction on the cheapest fares) is best practice. HOWEVER - the Status Bonus, Fly Ahead (and botched Seat Selection Fees) are nothing...

    New VA Fare Structure

There have been no changes announced (or indicated) for earning/redemptions. Only changes to benefits eligible on particular fare types.

    AA's SYD-LAX flight

Great review - but as you say - as your first international J experience you have little to benchmark it against. Fly the route again with a good QF 380 crew and you'll have a good comparison point.

Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

1/ Interchange rates are not the only place that banks make money to fund reward programs. There's deposits held, interest paid (on loans and CC accounts etc) - the whole valuation is an actuarial process. Interchange rates are but one component. 2/ You're looking at it the wrong way - it's...

Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

Your guess is way too low - it is highly unlikely that BW is paying less than 1c/point - and I think that is even pretty low.

Dunno - but yours would be an interesting data point which would reveal the nature of query they ran...... - Did they select all those making 1c payments? - Did they select all those making 50 micro-payments per day (and what do they define as a micro-payment) - Did they simply select those who...

Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

The issue wasn't Telstra - they could fix it if they wished. Bankwest was most likely paying between 1.0-1.5 cents per QFF point - that's a min. of $75/month per card..... adds up pretty quick.

Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

1/ You missed the entire point - and that is that he had 2 cards - he got flagged, then eventually shut down. He WAS NOT a "1 card customer" which is what people are asking about in the thread - yet he keeps piping up and claiming that his shutdown was a data point proving that "1 card...
