    eSims, what is your experience.

You can top up the AIS SIM by credit card. Even if you have a foreign exchange fee, it would add less than 2c on a 10 baht (42c) top-up. I've topped mine up to just under my min plan cost (35 baht/7 days). That way, one 10-baht top-up on the day I arrive will trigger it.

Article: The Unpublished Benefit of Paying for Preferred Seats

Definitely true on Air Asia. One of my best economy international flights ever was MNL-DMK on Z2. Total cost under US$100 for a 3 hour flight, including baggage, meal and exit row seat. Standard seats were 80-90% full, but I had 3 seats to myself, with tons of legroom. Another passenger tried...

    eSims, what is your experience.

Came for a look here after seeing the puff piece in the Gazette today. That article uses global roaming as its price comparison but ignores costs of SIM cards. 6-9 times the cost for an eSIM doesn't seem worthwhile to me. e.g. Airalo eSIM for Thailand is US$9.90 for 8 days. That's about...

    Sniip crashes on Android 7

Exactly. They've now released a new version that Google Play correctly says isn't available for an Android 7 device. They still didn't communicate the change to users, though.

    Sniip crashes on Android 7

How else is the vulnerability going to matter? A well-behaved process can run as root with all possible permissions without any ill effect. You need a bad actor for the protections to be relevant. The exception is apps that process data directly from an external source. e.g. SMS, WiFi, media...

    Sniip crashes on Android 7

I don't download dodgy apps, so not really an issue, as most exploits require a malicious app. I hardly use apps at all. I wouldn't have even downloaded Sniip if they had a web site.

    Sniip crashes on Android 7

Most apps don't force updates, so you can just keep using the app that works on your device. Also, there are sites that archive old versions and you can sideload those. It's usual to assume that apps will keep functioning until the company informs users otherwise. Not really a question. It's...

    Sniip crashes on Android 7

Initially, it would take almost no resources. They could have just allowed users to keep using the old version of the app, which was working fine. The forced update to the crashing app is the problem. Unless they change their API, those who are happy with the existing functionality could have...

    Sniip crashes on Android 7

Recently, the Sniip app required users to install an updated version. The updated version works fine for me except for actually paying a bill, which crashes it. This is, of course, the worst time for it to fail. Unfortunately, Sniip support replied that they are only supporting Android 8+ now...

$10 off paying bills with Sniip (this platform lets you earn full Amex points)

That offer is currently available on one of my Amex cards. On the other, there is a different offer: Spend $250 or more, in one or more transactions, via the Sniip app by 21/07/2023 to get 1,250 Membership Rewards Bonus Points. My referral link is MN8x.

    RewardPay Alternatives

Doesn't Wise just do money transfer? The thread is about paying bills (esp. BPay) by credit card and overseas credit cards have much better rewards schemes, so it's way preferable to use an overseas card. (see "Strategy to obtain US Amex") Yes, a card's issuing institution and country can be...

    RewardPay Alternatives

With Sniip charging 3% to BPay with an international card, rather than 1.5%, that's no longer reasonable. Beem It says it only works with Australian cards. Are there any good payment methods for international cards any more?

Bamboo Airways $4228 to Europe J

If your transit is over 3 hours, it could be quite miserably boring. Bamboo may not issue boarding passes until 3 hours before departure of each individual flight. (SGN has no usable WiFi and no food or drink in the transit area. The only thing you can buy is SIM cards, though that would get you...

Article: A Brief History of Qantas Frequent Flyer

The certs were garbage. The technical reason they were garbage is not really important. The important thing is that QF are cheap mongrels who minimised value to members while other airlines maximised value. Also, I'm pretty sure the one with the empty business cabin had availability and they...

ING Bank Dropping 5 ATM Operator Fee Rebate Benefit from 1/8/23

What I mean is that when a bank makes a major change to an account's conditions, the obvious thing to do is change the account to a product that is more useful to you. If you use a sensible bank, you can do this. e.g. If you want to change the type of savings account you have with Bendigo Bank...

Article: A Brief History of Qantas Frequent Flyer

My membership number is in the mid 6 digits. With the Qantas Telstra Visa earning double points overseas, earning tons of points in the late 90s was easy. I did a business class multi-city trip each year, such as MEL-ADL // ADL-DRW // DRW-ADL-PER // PER-MEL or MEL-HBA // HBA-SYD // SYD-PER //...

ING Bank Dropping 5 ATM Operator Fee Rebate Benefit from 1/8/23

Savings Maximiser used to be much better. The good bonus interest originally had no requirement to make >=5 card purchases per month, nor to have another account with them. Seems like the stardard MO for ING is to create a product with a good feature and then pull the rug out from under those...

Article: Only 17% of Ansett Global Rewards Members Feared of Airline Bankruptcy

I last flew NZ in 2000. I'll consider NZ only if they compensate me for the AN points I lost due to their mismanagement. I do wonder how much revenue they've lost over the years due to those passengers who avoid them at all costs. The revenue from the dozens of flights I took with QF and UA is...

Changes to how you use your $450 Travel Credit

It is possible. Last time I found one was about 5 years ago. It's not worth the hours of searching. Even if the hotel rate is the same on all channels, the chain itself gives points, other sites (hotels.com, etc) give some rebate (1 free night per 10, etc), Agoda will give at least 7% off ...

Changes to how you use your $450 Travel Credit

Yes. I just received the email. Amex Travel is over-priced for hotels. For airlines, it matches usual fares, but many airlines are missing so, again, that makes it way more expensive. I've used my $200 for a $199 air fare. Way better to get $199 credit than to have to buy something over-priced...
