SC with Etihad on KLM ticket

No, you can't earn Velocity status credits on a KLM ticket.

ADL - AKL direct on (Air) NZ's wide bodied Boeing787 (good for ADL travellers to AKL)

Re: ADL - AKL direct on (Air) NZ's wide bodied Boeing787 (good for ADL travellers to Good news for those up the front but a mixed bag for those in economy given NZ (like most others) cram their 787s with nine across seating. Space-wise, you're better off in a 320.

Virgin Australia Golds lose LAX lounge access

Okay now I'm imagining a steamy hot tub in one corner of the lounge :D

    Velocity/Virgin websites are RUBBISH

It would seem that I have the pleasure of a new feature - each page of the booking process now only half loads and needs to be refreshed in order to continue. Using Chrome incognito (because I can't be bothered clearing my cookies, which seems to be the only way to get the website to work when...

Different points earn on same sector in opposite direction

https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Earn/Airlines/PointsEarn/ is your friend :) 5 points per dollar on domestic flights and 0.5-2 points per mile on international flights.

Should Virgin Australia bring back domestic premium economy?

Yep I didn't like the person that row 3 made me - craning my neck to scan boarding passes, telling the poor bewildered status-less in contemptuous terms that they can't stow their bag on the floor and barely stifling the sighs when the tray table is too difficult to operate. Now I just sit in...

Should Virgin Australia bring back domestic premium economy?

Meh I've retreated to row 4 anyway (I found row 3 was always full of first timers trying to stow their baggage on the floor) so I reckon VA should get some extra cash for row 3 if they can. Personally, once I've got 31 in. pitch, I want more shoulder room, not more leg room, so I wouldn't see...

Your 2016 Flying Year in Review

Hooray! I actually think of this thread throughout the year when I fly on a new airline or to a new airport :D - 60,531 miles from 55 segments (compared to 137,647 miles from 53 segments in 2015) - all in Y again :( - new airlines: just one - Pacific Island Air (I flew one segment in an...

Air Chathams: A step back in time

Great report! :D Did you go into town for dinner? I'd love to see the obligatory leg room shot of your generous fellow passenger's car.

Is it time for Virgin to join an alliance?

Yep Star Gold is okay but it's just that - Gold. It's not F lounges and champagne and chauffeurs - it's the KF Gold Lounge, 10% points earnings on some fares and no benefits on MI. And something that troubled me when I had Star Gold: safety on OZ and TK.

Int. Lounge Acess Changes from Nov. 1 2016

Yep pretty sure we never could access NZ lounges on NZ-operated Pacific Island flights regardless of status or lounge membership.

airberlin status credits - inconsistency on velocity site

This page https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Earn/Airlines/PointsEarn/ explains why there are no AB fares listed - SCs are only earnt on AB-operated VA codeshares, so refer to the VA section

Int. Lounge Acess Changes from Nov. 1 2016

Are they doing it to save money or was this the only way to save their lounge access? It kinda looks like: - NZ said 'Trans Tasman we have to stay friends but otherwise it's over between us - get out of our lounges; you're not welcome' - VA went to SQ and they said 'fine you can come in...

    HHonors Gold/Diamond for Velocity Gold/Plat

I had a diamond card delivered - always handed it over the counter at check-in and it was always quickly returned with a polite request for my passport and credit card so I stopped carrying it. Actually the warmest welcome I've had in a HH property was at Conrad Bali as a lowly silver with no...

No meal service trans-tasman, inquiry to VA about why is bizzare

I don't want to defend VA too much but in your case they couldn't land so they diverted to a safe airport nearby and provided alternative transport to get you to your destination. For which part of that did you want an apology?

    New VA Fare Structure

Great to see the news from David and a post from the mysterious VFF (thanks for at least appearing but that post added nothing to the discussion). Anyway I'm happy to say thanks and well done for reversing this decision. If, as it appears by the clunky resolution, the original decision was...

    New VA Fare Structure

No I understand where you're coming from - my last work trip was equivalent to six months of personal spending on VA! As I've said earlier in the thread, these changes show just how little value VA sees in those of us SGs and WPs who are self-funded and fly on the cheapest fares. The good...

    New VA Fare Structure

And there's one of the biggest issues for me at least. If I'm sinking 5 figures into an airline annually, it stings to be told I have to pay a fee to select a seat (and at the same time see my FF earn halved and my baggage allowance drop 33%) unless they're offering me big discounts on my...

    New VA Fare Structure

I like your analysis, Cool Cat Phil! VA has really got me wondering whether as a fortnightly traveller on saver fares, I was actually costing them money or at least not earning them anywhere near what they hoped to earn from their WPs. These changes seem to indicate as such given how they...
