Where are all the USEFUL Amex offers this time of year?

Don't mind me. I accidentally stumbled in here but I'll go back to the Your Questions thread where it's all a bit more friendly

    VA6 timing from LAX

Recently returned on VA6 and they're still serving breakfast prior to arrival (at the time of serving it was 11 pm in LAX and 6 pm in BNE so it only really makes sense if you've spent a month in the mid-Atlantic and you're still on Azores time). Upon arrival it was announced that the local time...

Your 2017 flying year in review

I look forward to this thread all year long :D This year I managed 63 segments and 126,554 miles - record segments by 10 but short of my record miles by 10,000 reflecting a lot more domestic flying this year. All of it was Y except for an SQ J redemption, which was by far my highlight of the...

Virgin not honoring tickets - AKL-US in Biz Class

$1330 for transpacific business is clearly a mistake. If you want to fly that route and day in economy but the fares are cheaper than what you originally paid, then I suggest you take up their offer of a cancellation and then re-book in economy. If you only booked the fare to take advantage of...

    Rental Rewards & Amex

I have used a Platinum Edge without issue but I definitely recommend comparing the cost of the additional points to the value you expect to receive from them given the hefty surcharge for Amex. It was too much for me and I reverted to Visa/MasterCard pretty quickly.

No Frequent Flyer Points on Aer Lingus?

Try to look at it from QF's perspective. They made an error by crediting unearned points; as an act of goodwill, they haven't corrected their error but you're asking them to knowingly make the error again. If you really want consistency and for justice to be done, ask your partner to return the...

    Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

Yes it was terrible timing - the visibility decreased just when there were 10 aircraft waiting at the holding points and it took a while to increase the spacing between arrivals to allow for any departures at all. Time from pushback to take-off was 40-50 minutes for most of the affected flights...

AC maydays not accommodated at Hyderbad until the 4th call

Pilots can always act without or contrary to ATC clearance if that's what they need to do to maintain the safety of their flight. ATC isn't the sky equivalent of the police - it's more like those guys who help you park in grassy paddocks when you're at the football or a festival.

    VA/VFF "Digital Transformation"

At last count there were 1,305 pieces of free advice for whoever gets the job right here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/virgin-australia-velocity/velocity-virgin-websites-are-rubbish-48005-131.html

Velocity vs Star Alliance - worth changing?

You'll need to do the sums but don't go from VA WP to Star Gold for better treatment on SQ: there's very little difference other than, as Star Gold, you have access to partner lounges where SQ doesn't have their own lounge. In SIN, you'll still be sharing the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge with the VA...

Boycotting Jewish businesses... you're not in great company, there, can I just say?

    Perth - Forgotten again

With Indonesia Air Asia, Malindo, Garuda and Jetstar all on a purely leisure route, I'd say there's just no way that VA can compete and make money.

    Velocity/Virgin websites are RUBBISH

This is becoming a regular occurrence for me and it's happening again this morning. It's really quite pathetic: while I don't buy that much online, I've never encountered another business with a website so determined to stop people from spending money.

Not forgetting that if the plebiscite had been allowed, the issue would've been resolved by now.

    The totally off-topic thread

Hello all! Long time AFFer but first time Playgrounder. This seems like the best place for something that I really feel I need to share. I love receiving mail and any sort will do so I always make sure to check the mailbox each day for any interesting little gems. I was rather disappointed...

Forum Opinion - Level above WP?

What about making family pooling for points only? As a WP I want there to be fewer status pax and more status benefits but the number of people making redemptions is less visible to me.

Forum Opinion - Level above WP?

Yep I'd vote for an increase in WP benefits along with raising the bar to get and keep WP.

Have you looked at the pointhacks website? It's an excellent resource for comparing rewards credit cards and they've covered the recent industry changes in depth.

Velocity WP - Op-up with SQ

Allow me to join the chorus of the naysayers - the only way to fly in J on SQ long haul is by buying a J ticket. But as I always say to anybody who'll listen, SQ Y is the best Y in the world so just sit back and enjoy the wide seats and polished service knowing that you're not missing out...

VA to HKG from Jul 5 2017, ex MEL

I've had a few nasty things to say about VA these past few days so I think it's only fair that I say it's good to see a simple arrangement utilising partner lounges :)
