APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

The signs for it seemed confusing to me, and as I was staying in BKK I didn't have to use transfer, I didn't investigate closely, but it appeared as simple as going upstairs (escalators or elevators available) located fairly centrally, but well before immigration, I came in from the C side and...

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

My exit from BKK last sunday was at 6.30am and it was quiet, but still didn't see any "appropriate" lanes. I flew SQ F and didn't have the Thai benefit, although I did have access to the Thai F lounge which IMHO is still trying to get it's act together.

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

I came through the new BKK airport today. Large and IMHO a blend of HKG and KLIA, lots of concrete inside and sails on the outside. Immigration was fairly quiet and is certainly more spacious than the old airport, counters are "zig zagged" and the counters are in pairs and more open than the old...

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

SQ usually comes into gate C2 or C4 and you have to take the aerotrain to the main terminal, then down to immigration. SQ is part of the premium lane user group, which are also the APEC lanes as NM has mentioned. They are slightly to the left as you reach the immigration boxes. I have seen...

Sorry - guess you'll have a bit of a wait. In the meantime revenge may be waving at us as we line up at Heathrow and you sail past there - lol.

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

Anyone who has a passport of a member country and can demonstrate to them they are a regular business traveller can apply to their passport jurisdiction for a card. I am not aware of any restrictions having an Aussie PR, for example, has (but there may well be some). As long as Sydney Immi...

It's been a long time now since I went through Guangzhou, but my memory is it's a long, bust strainght walk, with no less bureaucracy, etc.

Shenzen has its "moments"! The China clearance works at all points, but not all have special lanes. I would still be inclined to try the outside lanes, showing both paper and card (even though China is not printed on it). Good luck!

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

Caggs, I would do a few things: 1. Check with Immi and ask if they can chase up China. Immi are responsive and will tell you how the situation is. China is slow but usually not 12 months slow. 2. Get a paper visa if time is against you. 1 above may save the cost. 3. When you get there go...

SGP is indeed SIN. Don Muang won't happen after Thursday 28th when they use new airport. They are still a part of the scheme and look for diplomatic or similar lane. I expect to pass through there Friday too...it will be "interesting". I am at MNL and the card just heled me jump 200 people. At...

Call for frequent flyers to skip airport checks

I am in support of it, but I am sure for every system there are ways around it. Surely they could begin with APEC card holders for example - we have been pretty well screened already, and then there is my US visa with all the photos and fingerprints...not to mention 100 point identity check...

I am pretty sure Tibet is not included under China. It is certainly not a "entry point" that accepts the APEC card.

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

My experience with JKT is they are pedantic about only using the right lane for processing APEC entry. I have tried using other lanes, especially at times when the right lane has (as often is the case) a "complicated" paperwork case ahead being dealt with and no sight of a near-term resolution...

APEC Business Travel Card - Express Immigration Clearance

On one of my frequent trips thru the region, have my partner (domestic) in tow and APEC card has saved a good hour in each of HKG (in) and NRT (in and out) with immigration officers kindly allowing her through with me. NRT has never been a problem this way, HKG can be. Now if only in Sydney...

Resources for working out which hotels and programs I should use

To the extent that you can look ahead, see what hotel chains are likely to be most consistently available for you and then look at what it takes for status. If you can take a night at Raffles - I wouldn't knock it back!

    Something similar to checkmytrip.com?

The PNR (reservation code) used by the airline is different from that used by Sabre, etc - it's a pain. If you booked directly with the airline, I don't think you'll be able to use them. I always have a sabre PNR of something like BJJRTZ and a QF PNR of something like ZEIG2M. QF PNRs are...

    Something similar to checkmytrip.com?

My travel agent and I use Sabre and their Virtually There itineries are transportable into AvantGo, Outlook and some other options. I know other systems like Amadeus do similar.

    Grades of Platinum

Dom QF I have mixed experiences with a middle-alphabet last name. I understood QF kept the first couple of rows "free" when the system allocates seats ( I assume there are heaps of algorithyms in the process) because of the check in demand for those rows. I have received a first row Y...
