Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

Thanks for the (perceived to be rude) response. I don't really see what is incorrect about the perspective but each to their own. Perhaps you are a Boeing tragic. I used to be and I am just a flyer not a pilot or an airplane engineer but I was a software engineer and I have read many articles...

    Hydroxychloroquine - What Goes On?

I agree with this statement. I just recently came back to this discussion and still have a lot to read to understand all the new links provided. I will do this when I can get the energy and time after being fairly sure I contracted Covid19 in early Feb on a cruise ship before the tests were...

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

Apologies if it has already been posted but it looks like Boeing will have to jump through more hoops. With the virus, it looks more and more doubtful that it will fly very often (except for perhaps Southwest - good reminder to self to avoid!) Boeing 737 MAX Needs New Computer Systems to Meet...

    Whats your booking killer?

For the past couple of years I have been booking direct rather than through third parties. For country or suburban properties I try to book properties that adjoin/are affiliated with clubs (e.g. RSL or sports clubs) as they seem to be good value, support the local community and generally have...

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

I guess it depends on when the virus is under control and the price. I know I will be avoiding travelling on them when air travel opens up - not only related to safety but mainly because of the lack of ethics the company demonstrated. Trust is destroyed easily and takes a lot of effort to regain.

Starting to wonder if frequent flyer points and miles will be used for flying

I have about 900K in QFF points which I was saving for 2 or 3 X RTW J class. At the moment I am holding on to them rather than spending but I have a feeling RTW won't be an option for quite a while. :( Asia and Europe might be though (although less value for points)

Qantas Equity $1.9B Raising and Announcements June 2020

My nephew is a specialist crane electrician who usually flies all over the country and the Asia Pacific at short notice to fix cranes so that construction can continue. There are not very many electricians in the country who know how to fix cranes. I am just mentioning this as one example of...

Qantas Equity $1.9B Raising and Announcements June 2020

I agree it is very tough for everyone involved and because a lot of people will have a shortage of money due to unemployment and underemployment, that will mean less money to spend on holidays. The cost of local holidays haven't compared well to the cost of overseas holidays either. However...

One that didn't get too much lower. It did go down to about 91 but is now up above the original 95.

    General Discussion/Q&A on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Sorry - late to the 'party'. However, I have purchased and regularly use a pulse oximeter online after my experience. I went on a cruise late Jan/early Feb and after returning developed a respiratory infection. My doctor strongly suspected that I had caught a northern hemisphere flu from a...

Can Boeing and the 737 survive?

The news for Boeing and the max is certainly not getting any better: https://www.travelpulse.com/news/airlines/united-cancels-more-than-half-its-boeing-737-max-orders.html This won't help them either...

    Flight Centre Gift Cards

If I was in your situation, I would book and pay for an Australian trip, for example the Ghan for next year. I think you should be able to use the cards for bookings past the expiry date as long as you book and the money is paid to the travel provider by the expiry date (and you have proof). I...

    General Discussion/Q&A on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I have been taking hydroxychloroquine (plaquenil) for arthritis for 6 months on advice from my rheumatologist. After hearing about this trial (before results) I refilled my script! It is an old drug - previously used for treating malaria. Apparently Britain has restricted exports of a...

    Not a plane but a bird :)

My daughter took this pic on a recent cruise to NZ - it is an albatross coming in to land. It reminds me of a plane with landing gear down :D

Ethiopian 737 Max 8 crash and Fallout

I think the evidence is growing that Boeing has very serious problems with quality control of their software engineering and their corporate culture spreading back over a number of years. I have certainly lost a lot of trust that they are doing the right thing...

Boeing has fired CEO Dennis Muilenburg

Here is an interesting article about how Boeing intends to help airlines convince passengers to fly on the max. Doesn’t convince me https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/12/24/business/boeing-737-max-survey.amp.html
