    Velocity Platinum Complimentary Upgrades

Does VA allow you to wait list for these upgrades at the airport for short-haul international? Looking to utilize these for a trip to Fiji but could only find 1 J rewards on those flights. If I lock in one upgrade for the CEO and another one doesn’t get released would I still be able to request...

Have Virgin cancelled the 'Fly Ahead' benefit again?

do we know what’s the right buttons to press to get to the right team for fly ahead request on the phone? Tried to request that on the phone this morning and dialing 136789 and entered my velocity number but still seemed to got to the wrong team. I had to be transferred to the “premium team”...

Fraud on Velocity Frequent Flyer accounts

I’d say it’s still too hard for the average job to identify. It’s all well and good that the crew and instruction manual in the seat pocket tells you to go to a particular website, but if you got taken somewhere by a captive portal it’s hard to tell whether it’s the right one used by that...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

It’s not an ACCC concern. ACCC deals with business engaging in “cartel” behavior, in this case two airlines coordinating fare, schedule, routes. Wet-lease vs dry-lease is an IASC concern. Why would JH do that publicly now? Doesn’t make sense to lock yourselves into a commitment if you can get...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Agreed. I think with the fundamental changes in the system whether people are better or worse off in the new system is now highly depends on individual circumstances now - a quick example for one particular route for one partiuclar fare isn't quite enough sample to say "it's a big problem" or...

    Sydney lounge - I’m upset

I think she’s playing by the book to not check you in. The system locks out the check in at T-30min and requires a manual override which seems like it’s what you got at the end. I think what went wrong was she tried to send you back out of security and have someone else deal with you. She would...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Once they roll out the Flex fare change this year before April that might be a window where you can maximize your SC with cheaper flex fare but more significantly more SC.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Even with 2 flights per day from QR and VA that still seems to be a small amount of flight for a lounge, given there’s already the QF lounge for OW carriers. Unless of course QR is able to get VA to add lounge offerings to its short haul international flights then it becomes a more viable...

VA cancelled half my trip - no notification

This waiver seems to allow you to be rebooked onto the underlying SQ coded flights after the VA codeshare were inadvertently cancelled. Those are unlikely to be completely full so far out.

VA cancelled half my trip - no notification

The codeshare is technically a separate flight with its own inventory and fare rules applicability. It’s hard to say why exactly VA would want to cancel existing codeshare instead of just simply stop selling new tickets. One possibility could be changes in commercial terms meaning it’s no...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

In the Australian context this usually means the airline has been allocated the Australian side frequencies by IASC and landing and depature time from the airports. Then the airline can put the ticket on sale with "subject to government approval" while it finalises the remaining paper work with...

Using Velocity points for Virgin Atlantic reward

Your best bet is to use VS/DL’s website to search for reward seats then call up VA to book. Still no guarantee that VA have access to those seats but according to anecdotal evidence from a friend it worked for a transatlantic flight from US into LHR.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

That is very true, though I think this is more of a business decision. On face value even with VA being just a QR proxy it’s hard to argue against the fact that more flight is good for consumers. Alternatively the government can just sign an open sky or expand the bilateral with Qatar - I’d be...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Sorry I’m really confused: are you saying 1. VA should just lease a few wide bodies and enter the international market “with conviction” or 2. they shouldn’t even bother trying and just be happy being Australia’s 2nd domestic airline because they have “no conviction” or 3. the VA/QR wet lease...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Then too bad you don't get the extra flight feeding the Doha hub and back to your 28 weekly frequencies? If QR wants to sell it's stake to someone else it can do it at any time with or without the wet-lease arrangement. I disagree. Most airlines' fleet planning happen years or decades ahead of...
