Is Qantas diluting the benefits of status?

I think you've been unlucky. On a few occasions when I applied for ODU, I think I only got declined once when the business class was totally full.

Is Qantas diluting the benefits of status?

That is my experience too. I've been a WP for a while and I seem to vary within the range you mentioned above. I don't feel I am being particularly disadvantaged here (although I am not too happy with QF at the moment - not receiving even a word of apology from the ground staff about quite a...

    Brisbane Qantas Staff Stood Down

I encountered something similar (in my case it was for a connecting BA flight). It caused the check-in staff so much work that I felt really guilty (I said I would just collect my bags at LHR and re-check them at T5, but they said they would try and sort it out, which they did).

    Brisbane Qantas Staff Stood Down

I think check-in staff can still op-up their 'friends' etc though. Unfortunately I am not subject to 'check-in friends' but I keep having people brag about it to me (without their realising that I'm not exactly amused by it, being a WP - having their 'friends' op-uped instead of WPs like...

Upgrade to business from economy on N, O or Q

I don't mind if the person in front of me reclines in dreaded whY, as long as I am not trying to eat. Not that I often have a seat in front on me on a long haul flight, but I really couldn't care less. What I do HATE is the seat kicker behind me. They drive me absolutely batty, so much so that...

Upgrade to business from economy on N, O or Q

Correct - I had to do that for one of my flights, because of the same online error. You need to explain that there seems to be a system error online, and they will do it for you.

    Screening at different airports.

To combat Rexona-phobic issues at airport security, I recommend crystal deodorants because they solid so they do not fall foul of aerosol or liquid rules :D

    Big development! Qantas seat selection!

Speaking as a WP, I'd rather sit 'quiet down the back' than the 'full front' for sure. I don't really value the 'front' part that much, although 'quiet front' would be my preference of course - and I don't like bulkhead seat that much, so the only thing I really value is the exit row aisle.

Earn 5,000 Extra Points with Qantas and oneworld

I had one 5,000 pts due and I have received them.

Upgrade to business from economy on N, O or Q

Some may say I am a travel slave. I seem to travel about half of each month (and that's not for work!) They could also say I am addicted to avoiding economy class travel.

Upgrade to business from economy on N, O or Q

I generally prioritise my sleep - whether that's day or night! I rarely get enough sleep when I'm on the ground, so being on an aeroplane is a great way of getting adequate sleep (and hoping for no disruption by noisy passengers) Being on an aeroplane was a huge relief when I was a...

    Big development! Qantas seat selection!

The day when QF scraps First (Ok, done that for some routes), scraps Business Class (not quite) and Premium Economy AND goes free seating is the day when it becomes a true LCC-like carrier - but with high operating costs. On a serious matter, I too find it bizarre that QF did not offer...

seat allocation pe not blocked seats

I like the expression on the front row sardine. He looks like he's saying, somewhat indignantly, "Oh do I really have to sit in this sardine can?" and the 2nd row one looks a bit more resigned to the sardine can situation but still looks somewhat uncomfortable.

Virgin Blue - the Kindergarten of the Air

Trying to be funny on the PA can indeed be funny but it can also wear thin, or it can even seem plain dumb, to be honest. It's all about whether it's done well or not, I think - a bit like any comedy.

They should have asked us for our feedback and got us to test it before going public

Op Op Op Up and away!

I hope it was simply the case that he was travelling on the same PNR as munitalP, or there was no more QFF member to op-up. That is very unfortunate. My op-up success rate has been at least one sector per long haul itinerary for the last 12-18 months. I don't know why you don't seem to get...

Qantas to charge passengers extra for exit row seats

Comparing Qantas to LCCs. I guess Joyce will indeed turn Qantas into Jetstar? Anyhow, I don't care if they want to charge for it as long as they prioritise WPs (followed by SGs etc). But I somehow doubt it. To me, it's more about semi-assured access than money (as long as fees aren't...

Upgrade to business from economy on N, O or Q

I think that could be where the problem is. From what I gather, the BA online paid upgrade only works on tickets booked on BA website, although I stand to be corrected. It could also be the QF flight in your booking that is complicating it. It was when I linked a PNR with QF flight to my BA.com...

    Big development! Qantas seat selection!

I may take an exit row middle seat on a long haul flight, but certainly not on short-haul. I think I'd rather take the aisle right down the back where it comes 2-4-2 though.
