Booking Return from Japan with Velocity for ANA

ANA's HND-SYD flight usually have good business availability close in. I'd take the gamble to book a economy ticket now (choose a slightly flexible fare knowing you are likekly going to cancel it so the upfront cost isn't that big of a deal) and then look for those business awards close in, then...

Virgin Australia to lease more 737s

VH-REX returned to MEL as VA9926 yesterday.

Fly ahead at SYD international terminal?

There is a VA counter once you clear immigration and customs that would let you check in and drop your bad. Depending on your arrival time it may or may not be open.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

I have not and I understand what you mean. Sydney’s lounge has got a fine foundation. It just needs to have some interior design changes made to better utilize the space and I’d expect a 15% capacity increase is totally possible using the existing space with just adjustments to the floor plan -...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Sure, I expect that’ll happen as furnitures age and the Sydney lounge will get a refresh in the coming years just like Adelaide and Melbourne. It’s relatively inexpensive and they don’t need a capital injection for that. And VA has been getting more and different planes. 7M8 and M10 are coming...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Can VA not can one of the milk run flights and use that slot for the Doha service? Or would international slot be separate from a domestic slot?

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Do wonder if the protection on these services not approved applies to redemptions via FFP points. I wouldn’t be surprised if VA releases a large number of reward seats on the new service as part of the launch campaign which if of course wonderful. Would be a shame if Velocity members are left...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Presumably he meant the current JV between QR/BA/IB. I don't see why ACCC would be against it. What's BA bring to the table if it were to operate as a compeitior to QR? 1 daily SYD via SIN, not much in the grand scheme of things when you look at the major participants/JV in the market (SQ...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

The points hack article actually had the “correct” interpretation I think. Existing partnerships are the “some exceptions” but VA won’t add new partnerships in those regions without a nod from QR.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

That's how all VA's current international codeshare arrangement works (or at least they are permitted to do so by ACCC). They have a blanket approval from ACCC dated in 2022 Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd which explained why VA didn't want to sell unilateral codeshare.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Yes and no I think. If you like SQ and mainly fly them to Europe, then yeah it won't work for you because you can't get them on VA code anymore. But if you are fine with QR then I'd say there are more opportunity to get a VA coded flight to Europe at a competitive price. With metal-neutral JV...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

different scenario in the DPS allocation IMO. they didn’t end up getting the slot because they weren’t willing to operate the domestic tag as international, but I don’t think there’s any concern that VA weren’t genuine about operating those slot and was trying to be a road block to prevent JQ...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

Usually doesn’t take that long for IASC unless it’s a contested application in which this won’t be. Most recent example is how quickly the HND slot was given to QF after VA announced they would return it. Unless Qantas all of a sudden say they now want to fly to Doha and want to contest the...

Can't see outbound leg of AUS-CAN flight

Doesn't seem to be a codeshare specific issue? I know I'm being pedantic but it could have happened to any inter-line booking, whether the ticket issuer book the codeshare or just a standard interline. Unfortunately that's just the reality of airline IT systems mostly being lipstics on a pig...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

I don't know so I made no comment on any other airline's labour pratices. I'm simply pointing out the irony behind the Qantas letter to ACCC. Though I also think there's a distinction between being able to pay your staff less money with worse condition due to your local labour market or...

I didn't mean that. It's specifically for the aviation sector - pilots, crew or ground handling.

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

It's madness how Qantas was able to write a letter like this with a straight face. Qantas, under Alan Joyce, poinerred the use of cheap labour in this sector here in Australia, whether that's foreign based crew or through labour hire. The issue raised, it's a valid point, but it's laughable...
