Went down to mumandye's place in Camberwell on the bus next morning. Helped her out a bit mounting a picture frame and sorting out some boxes of keep-or-throw stuff. Wished I could have stayed longer but will devote more time when I'm back later in the year. Back up to Paddington to pick up...

Spent the next few days in London Mstrandye+1 have landed a beautiful flat in Westbourne Terrace near Paddington so stayed the night there. Then went up to sisterandye's in Woodford on the tube to go to nephew3andye's end of season rugby preso. As a recently retired Junior Rugby President, this...

Carthage must be destroyed (Tunisia 2025)

I always thought that Hannibal was a more appealing hero than his Roman contemporaries, so am sympathetic to the Carthaginian cause

Yes, agree the gates are a bit of a hike. Makes it difficult to judge one's lounge time. I handed in my shower buzzer as I wasn't going to fit one in. Was aboard the 4h A321 TK1931 to London pretty efficiently J Seats are very good on a par with QR medium haul, above QF/VA J domestic and streets...

Arrived in IST. Its big and an impressive airport. Similar world-hub feel to DXB, SIN & HKG. Headed off to the IST TK J lounge It's impressive in so many ways. It's big, not enclosed, on a level above the main terminal so you can feel the buzz of the airport. The (self-playing) piano is a cute...

Article: Public Servants Spent $1 Million More on Flights During Double Qantas Status Credits

@SeaWolf is correct. Maybe end-of-year rebate would have been a better term than kickback Im sure the governments wouldn't want to be dealing with points (and not taking them would be part of their fare negotiations) but Qantas Business Rewards gives extra points to private sector employers

Boarding for the KUL-IST leg (for clarity it's a SYD-IST flight for FF accrual) was again a bit disorganised but back to seat 1A again. I skipped the breakfast but slept well. Menus and second service. The starters and dessert came on a trolley (not up to the 1960s SAS standard:- A bit of...

Article: Public Servants Spent $1 Million More on Flights During Double Qantas Status Credits

The other issue is that I strongly suspect that Feds and State get a kickback at the end of the year (like other corporate TAs)so they actually spend less than the headline fare. This isn't such an issue where travel is only limited by need, but there are some public roles (eg some wholly public...

The stop in KL is at 0335 so the airport is pretty quiet. There was no real info about what to do on the 2 hour stop so most of my fellow J pax went through security to the departure gate (pretty sure they saw the light at some point). In the absence of a specified lounge, I used my Amex Plat...

Have you topped up a UK pension to cover gaps?

There is always the possibility that the whole pension payment will "enhanced".(the most concerning would be some form of means-testing) It's probably not a huge risk as it would be pretty vulnerable to legal challenge but the UK financial position is not hunky-dory and it's classed as a...

Wines are mostly Turkish and better than I expected. This is probably as my previous experience of Turkish wine is from package holidays with young children 20 years ago when my wine selection criterion was "what's cheap and effective?"

J Seats are in a 1-2-1 formation. Not angled and a decent footwell. Not as private as QR/JL but I liked it overall. The middle seats probably feel a bit separated if travelling as a couple Amenity kit Loos have nice-smelling diffuser. They also get checked for cleanliness by crew after each visit*

Departure gate was pretty close to lounge. Boarding seemed slightly chaotic though eventually the priority lanes were established. TK175 is an A350 to Istanbul with a technical stop in Kuala Lumpur
