Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

We literally have an airline that took money from the taxpayer to “survive” (during a time when certain people thought moving within your own state was a capital offense), used it to expand into an entirely new type of operation, named an aircraft after the minister who was largely responsible...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

This was the issue with Rex. That we seem to be forgetting with all these tangents…. LKH and JS are nothing more than a pair of narcissists and bullies who treated their staff, customers and local governments with absolute contempt. There’s no surprise they’re showing their true colours now...

5,000 bonus points each on up to 3 international Qantas Hotels bookings (book by 5/8/24)

Joys of Qantas, sadly. They are an absolutely awful company.

80 minute connection from QF to Cathay in HKG - doable? legal?

If you were flying a decent airline, it would be fine. For QF, not enough.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

With Rex gone, we might have a better shot at that! I’m unaware of any other airline in the country that has registered an aeroplane with the initials of the transport minister.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Correct. However this is morphing into the government for some reason having to fund “competition” so certain people can have lower fares. This is not indifferent to the bonza debacle. People whinged that “fares will go up” when bonza was selling well below cost price. The government already...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

What’s the answer? I don’t think anyone is advocating for higher fares. People are, quite logically, stating that a failed foreign airline shouldn’t receive public funds for the single purpose of creating “competition” where there’s no market for it.

And they weren’t getting fleeced by Rex?

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Oh yes, no issue with that at all. Although the ACCC has to be the biggest waste of taxpayers dollars themselves!

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Not really. It’s not the governments job to put taxpayer money into a failed company so there can be “competition”. If the market warrants competition, competition will come. Assistance has been happening with these routes for years. I have no doubt the assistance will continue regardless of...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

I don’t think Rex even serve 40 ports. If Rex fell over tomorrow, I don’t think any community that isn’t already receiving a government subsidized service would be “abandoned”. The SAABs won’t be scrapped. They’re already on the Australian register. They’ll be picked up by another AU or NZ...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

I don’t think you understand how large companies work. I’ve outlined the issues above. Simply screaming “management!!!!” is not making a point. As I said, we have numerous other regional airlines that can take over these largely state government subsidised routes. QantasLink, flypelican, Link...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Takes a lot to fix a culture that’s been bred over 20 years. There are also a lot of regulatory positions in airlines that just can’t be “replaced”. VA is a good example. Plenty of the same old faces still floating around. Rex is down to less than half of its fleet, it cannot retain staff and...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

LKH. Remember his email to the doctor years ago? (Worth a google if you haven’t read it). The same narcissist who made new pilots sign a letter stating they’d “dedicate themselves” to the airline and accept conditions outside of their EBA. As I said above, losing this airline will be one of the...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

To be honest, the entire 737 plan was so childish that just about anyone could have run it better. Read the slideshow… it even reads like the planning board for a boys footy weekend away.

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

I believe Rex had a good supply of slots from their regional operation that they were using for the 737s. They could have operated any time they wanted to. I believe this would be referring to Tiger or Long Haul crew who were made redundant but have held seniority pending re-employment.
