Article: Qantas Considers Bringing Call Centres Back to Australia

Well… not really. You dared someone to state that people in the Philippines were dumber than equivalent Australians. You’ve now run off on a bizarre tangent. I’m unsure as to what you mean by “if you can’t say anything nice…”, so I’ll assume the point has gone over your head.

Article: Qantas Considers Bringing Call Centres Back to Australia

It’s not about stupidity. It’s about life experience, skills and training. We are generally calling these call centres for a service that is simply beyond the life experience of these people. They are unlikely to ever set foot outside the Philippines. You think they give a flying f about your...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yep I’ve been doing this flight for years. Hot turn inbound from Europe or South Africa and then head straight home. Quick unpack annd into bed - kills the jet lag. Only issue is that I find the main meal service to be too early in the flight. I’d prefer to nap and then have an early dinner...

Qantas Changes Acknowledgement of Country arrival Announcement

What would maybe make more sense is actually bringing a bit of culture into the announcements? SAA says Sawubona rather than “howzit”, NZ Kia Ora rather than “choice bro”. It’s an actual acknowledgement of their culture, rather than a condescending statement that foreigners wouldn’t understand...

ANZ makes it harder to access sign-up bonus points

TBH I’d have pushed a bit. Good chance they’d have caved when lodging an AFCA complaint.

JNB has always suffered, even back to the jumbo days. It’s why I stopped flying qantas

Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

I believe the crew position on the HEL-BKK-HEL sectors, so it’s pretty unproductive to do just the one Australia trip. The sooner Qantas get this in house the better.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yep. As a contrast, years ago on an RJ flight one of the flight attendants dropped an entire tray of boarding drinks on me departing AMM. She was apologetic… but during the flight the purser remarked “well it was your fault”. Really not sure how they came to that conclusion. Needless to say, was...

    Dumped in Joburg

That’s what the ground handler is for. Qantas probably has a station manager in JNB, but everyone else is contracted. It’s the same for every non-south African airline there (and even some of the local airlines). Qantas simply calls ahead to whoever they contract (I’d assume Bidvest) and says...

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Ok well that does make sense. And it’s a good result. Breaking a married segment rule can be problematic.

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Has anyone had any experience trying to transfer money out of this card? Say I were to decide to blow $60K at the Waldorf Astoria in NY (so transfer 50K above my limit into the account) however then change my mind and cancel it, can I retrieve the funds?

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

Was it an AY to AY connection within 24 hours? Could be true in that case (married segments). That said… does anyone believe an email would come back in a few minutes?

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I’ve only booked two of these in the last year and hearing that like has me tearing my hair out. It’s a blatant lie (like most of the BS that comes from the call centres) but there seems to be nothing that can be done. I’m dreading adding a single JFK-DFW in a few weeks when it opens up.

And don’t bother asking for a “supervisor” or “manager”. They’re no better. I’ve noticed the Fijians are the worst at escalating. Cultural I guess. I’ve even had one say “I’m sorry. I’m looking at my manager now and she’s shaking her head and doesn’t want to talk”.

Flight Attendants call on our entitlements - Not pretty.

Allowances are generally paid on duties that require the purchase of provisions. Ie: a layover. It’s not part of ones’ salary.

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

It looks fine. Is there availability CDG-HEL instead of BCN-HEL? It could be a millage issue. That will also kill their argument regarding the surface sector. Their argument is wrong, but fighting them can be more effort than it's worth (for the sake of a quick BCN-CDG flight).

    Dumped in Joburg

It’s a massive pain arriving somewhere around midnight as booking online becomes a problem. The CityLodge at JNB is massive so I’m surprised there wasn’t a room available (and it’s generally not too expensive). Protea and Premier are also close by and big. But the issue is finding availability...

Oneworld Classic Flight Reward Discussion - The Definitive Thread

I will, but it largely feels like a waste of time. The last OWA I booked was almost as painful and I never even got a response from customer care. Qantas knows how bad their call centres (and website) are, however they actively elect to do nothing to fix it.

This is why I fly SQ to South Africa. Qantas just isn’t worth it. When things go wrong, they go very wrong.
